1  Help & Tutorials / Help / Re: Dolphin Tutorial Help on: January 24, 2016, 11:19:01 PM
I don't know why I get game freezes when I set things up the way everyone else does (and they don't experience freezing, and they often have weaker PCs/laptops than mine). I guess I''m just doomed to experience "me only" game freezes. :p

But, I may need to use the VERY LATEST Dolphin emulator, because it might just address the very issue(s) I may be having, but have no idea how to fix.

Update: Even on the latest Dolphin emulator, 4.0-8790, I STILL get a persistent error when using certain characters (most notably and aggravatingly, Lugia):

An error has occurred.

Line 230
File: VertexShaderGen.cpp

Ignore and Continue?

Yes    No

If I click yes, the error window pops up INSTANTLY, again and again and again. It refuses to go away. How do I force this stupid thing to stop showing up?

Another Update: Turns out I "fixed" the problem by simply unchecking the box marked "Use Panic Handlers" in the Config settings. That VertexShaderGen.cpp "error" went away. It wasn't an error, but a simple assert message, albeit one which caused major gameplay disruption.

Now I can play as Lugia just fine. He's just an alternate (bigger) skin of Dragonite, anyway, so why shouldn't he be playable?
2  Help & Tutorials / Help / Re: Need help to install mods on: January 22, 2016, 12:32:55 PM
I finally figured out how to set up sd-required mods on Dolphin.

You will need the following:

1. Dolphin emulator (obviously)
2. Virtual SD Card Maker
3. ImDisk
4. Gecko OS (1.9 or later)
5. Brawl ISO (NTSC)
6. Mod of your choice (MUST be Dolphin-compatible)
7. Ability to follow instructions EXACTLY
8. Ability to tolerate long-winded posts like this one (LOL)

1. Assuming you've already downloaded everything in the above list, create a 2 GB sd.raw file using Virtual SD Card Maker. It will appear in your Dolphin Emulator folder, inside the Wii sub-folder.

2. Mount the sd.raw file as a virtual disk using ImDisk. Right-click the new drive letter that pops up and select Properties from the context menu that pops up. Navigate to the Policies tab, and uncheck the box beside "Enable Write-caching". This will make sure the contents of this disk do NOT "disappear" (but still take up space) when you unmount it.

3. Make a new folder and name it "codes" on the root of your virtual disk. Copy-paste your desired mod's codes into that folder, noting what controller type you intend to use.

4. Copy-paste your desired mod's Private folder and gameconfig.txt to the root of your virtual disk.

5. If needed, copy-paste your desired mod's st folder into your virtual disk's rsbe folder (only needed if using a BrawlEx mod, I think). Make sure to unmount your virtual disk, or else the codes won't show up (you'll end up just playing default-settings Brawl).

6. Copy-paste the Gecko OS boot.elf file to the same folder as your Brawl ISO. Make sure Dolphin's ISO directory is set to detect your ISO's location.

7. Right-click your Brawl ISO icon and set it to your Default ISO.

8. Open Gecko. Set the default hook type to either OSSleepThread or AxNextFrame. Make sure the SD Cheats option is set to "Yes" or "On".

9. Select Launch Game.

10. BRAWL!

It wasn't anything to do with Dolphin's settings. It had to do with not setting the virtual disk as removable media in ImDisk. As an extra precaution, I removed write caching on the virtual disk to MAKE SURE that the contents I inserted would stay put. The disk kept pseudo-erasing itself (still showed as having 1.40 GB of space being used...yet saying it was "empty"), but setting it as removable media took care of that stubborn problem.

Going to enjoy playing as Lugia in event matches...^w^

Edit: Seems I was using the wrong VERSION of the Super Smash Bros. Infinite mod. I was using the hackless version, and should have used the version marked "Dolphin.rar".

Hopefully this clears up any extra bugs, glitches and errors.

Another Edit: So much for "hoping". The stupid game still freezes at certain places, and I CANNOT use Lugia at all. I may have to hunt down a version of dolphin that I KNOW runs the game almost flawlessly: Dolphin XP+. It has extra options not normally available in the "standard" Dolphin emulator. Essentially, it's an advanced debugger version of Dolphin.

Here is the step-by-step process I used to (unsuccessfully) set up Brawl Infinity (BrawlEx mod) on Dolphin:

1. Put Private and codes folder on root of sd.raw
2. Put gameconfig.txt on root of sd.raw
3. Put RSBE01.gct file inside the codes folder
4. Put st folder inside the rsbe folder
5. Set Gecko OS's hooktype as either OSSSleepThread or AxNextFrame

Doing EVERYTHING correctly still yields that aggravating "No SD Codes Found!" error. What the heck am I doing wrong here? I'm at my wits' end...

Please note that I'm using the GameCube controller version of the hackless codes. Should I be using a different version?

If a mod wants this thread moved, it will be moved. End of story.

How do I simply build a new character roster? I want to be able to add some characters, while eliminating unwanted ones. I'm not asking for a lengthy tutorial on how to set each character's bones, vertices, animations, moves, et cetera.

I just want a simple step-by-step on how to customize a pre-existing Project M/BrawlEX roster.

Got 2 GB SD card; can't get brawlex to work properly besides just showing its intro screen and main menu. Going into any mode that would take me to the CSS causes the game to freeze. How do I force the game to stop doing this? It's really bugging the crap out of me. Urgh... Angry

Can't access CSS; game freezes w/ buzzing noise apparently designed by trolls.

Could someone please give me the EXACT steps needed to make this game playable?

This is starting to really p*** me off... Angry

I saw Pikezer's latest version of BrawlEX, which takes up 1.11 GB in its rar form, but I only have a 1 GB SD card. How do I go about placing this beautiful monstrosity on my USB drive (which is has 32 GB of total space--partially occupied by other wii games, of course)?

Would LOVE to take Bowser down a peg (or twelve) as the master of all Space Pirates, Ridley (or maybe even META RIDLEY! w00t!).
