16  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / General Hacking Discussion / Re: Get Featured on the KC:MM Blog (2015) on: August 12, 2015, 08:28:50 PM
Awesome, it looks great.
He's finally released!

I agree. I'm willing to test his stuff on the wii, even though I know there will can be a problem with most of them. I wish he could do some model rebuilding like Large Leader has been doing for optimization.

That said, I had actually tested his Chrom, which is lower poly since it was originally not a playable character. It definitely has an excellent model and a solid rig. The only thing that bothered me about it was the texture.

It feels for me like he overdid the desaturated look for Brawl's clothes. By looking at Chrom's official look, you can easily tell.

On Jaystring's hack, the hair is darker than his clothes, when in the original game, the clothes are darker than the hair. So, it isn't just a bit off, it is quite off.

I made an edited version for my own use, darkened while keeping the details. But even if I did release it as a collab, I wouldn't be able to feature (since I worked on it), and I can't bring myself to feature it as it is. It's quite a lame situation, I must admit...
Yeah, it's a pretty lame spot to be in. The work is all there, however, only select people can properly use it.
I'd suggest making blog posts about Dolphin exclusive mods, but there aren't very many of those.

I also love jaystring's work. His rigging is is probably in the top 5%! However, I do think it should be pointed out that he doesn't optimize his models whatsoever. Most of them are so high poly you can't really use them on an actual Wii, without lag.
His ZSS (which looks beautiful!) has 33192 facepoints, as apposed to Brawls 17433
However, his work is undeniably some of the best currently being posted.

Cool, I would actually like to suggest Program's Inkling Mario (whenever it's finished):

The ink metal texture is really original, and I love the way it looks on him Smiley
That was unexpected! It's a actually a collab between Rosetta-Hime and I. I've sent it to Rosetta to fix his ears, so whenever they're fixed he'll be released. Thank you!

Firstly I'd like to suggest my original Sonic character texture. Ari the Hedgehog.
I read the post I'm not dumb...I just like to troll.

Secondly, I'd like to suggest bizzozeron's 64 Remix Link.
It has really good rigging, the concept is original, all the normals are perfect, and it has nice textures.

More progress on Rusty. He's looking pretty nice in my opinion.

So, since no one mentioned me not posting a pick of my new shader/material I'll just post it.
As anyone who has done specs knows you get one spec per object... Well you used to.
My shader/masterial allow you to have two completely different specs on a single object.
That means 2 unique spec textures and 2 unique highlight textures for a single object. Do you think this could be useful?

so after a few hours of playing in the splatfest, i became rather unsatisfied with the current hair texture.  so i gave it another go.  i'm very pleased at how it came out this time.  the hair detail can actually be seen without squinting.  i also touched up the skin a tad, a bit darker still, but has a much better color to it.

and for comparison sake, the previous textures.

after basically hogging this thread for the last week or so, you guys will probably be begging me to disappear for another year.

pirate is such a dirty word.  i prefer 'borrowing'.
The Inklings are so close to being perfect! I think the dark colour on the tips of the hair needs to be more of a red/brown instead of a orange/brown. This is definitely a lot more pronounced than before, however, so it's a good improvement.
I don't want you to leave...it smells like mushrooms and everyone looks like they want to hurt me.

Borrowing is such a dirty word, I prefer "commandeer".

Question to everyone: Would you mind if I posted a picture of a shader and material I made here? Yes, I know it's not a model, however, everyone here has good opinions and I want to know if everyone thinks it's useful or dumb. If the answer is no that's cool I get the whole if one person gets to do this then why can't everyone scenario.

There needs to be a new Frieza model

I agree with ShadowLuigi about the gold, however, the reflection isn't my favorite. Personally I don't like the look of a texture that have "real world" things in it, like trees and stuff. I prefer to use/modify ones Brawl already uses, so it fits in a bit better. It may just be me though, it's looking nice nonetheless.

So, Inkling Mario should be released soon, I've sent him off to Rosetta, which means you'll all know my secrets!!! However, I've got a new collab with Kidneptune. I'm doing the textures/materials for Rusty from Steamworld Dig. It's up now, however, it's kind of a place holder until I finish the textures/materials.
P.S. I actually have never heard of this game. Does anyone here play/like it?

I wanted to read the credits, however, the link doesn't seem to work. I don't think that's considered a "Public" link, meaning only you can access it. I also tried while logged in to Dropbox and it still didn't work.
24  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / Model Imports / Re: BlackJax Quality™ Model Imports on: August 08, 2015, 12:15:44 PM
I don't know like 60% of who's up there. I'm so 'murican.
I've got you beat! I've only ever heard of Master Chief, Miku, and that's it. The girl with the jorts and socks looks like she could be from tekken, but I know that's wrong.
The only anime I've ever watched, which also happens to be one of my favorite shows of all time, is Samurai Jack! I don't even know the people here would consider it "anime" but it's the closest I've ever watched to anime.

P.S. Please tell me some here knows what Samurai Jack is...

Really curious to know what you did, the ink textures aren't transparent over the normal ones? You said there's five material references...did you think I thought that the metals were only transparent textures without the normal ones?
Yes sir, five material references  and no transparent textures! I could save all of the textures I used as .jpegs and it would work exactly the same.
No, I thought you were thinking it used Mario's normal texture with a .png of the ink over top. One more thing, because I don't want the whole surprise ruined, believe it or not the ink and the hair use completely different high textures.

Ha! This isn't a double post. Anyways, after seeing Mariofan's post I got to thinking and decided to man up and try to fix the problem. Fortunately I was fairly successful! Yeah, 9 shader stages, 5 material references, and quite a bit of trial and error to do the job. The only bug is the spec shows over the Ink. You can't really tell with these models, however, because the shoe spec is pretty dark.

attempt # last before i give up and have someone with more photoshop experience than i do which is probably close to the entirety of this board.

for comparison, the Purple has the original skin texture

and further comparison, Mario.  well, the only close enough to Mario i had on my sd at the moment.

this is what happens when the only included skin texture is a white that lies somewhere between 'sour cream' and 'glow in the dark'.

they are rigged, it's just the positioning.  i didn't realize they were that low until i already rigged everything.  and their shoes are pretty dang big.  the price of freshness.

that is a great idea. I may or may not steal that idea for later use...
The Skin definitely looks better... So what do we have here! All the members of this forum as my witnesses Snoopy has admitted that he plans to pirate my metal BOOTY!

@Program That is f-ing brilliant! Though why do the shoes and hair lose their shine? Are the "metals" new duplicate textures or are they transparent textures ontop of the normal ones?
Thanks! Closer to the second one, but not either. This way uses less file space, because I don't have to add two 512x512; I only have to use two 256x256, and no one can tell the difference.

P.S. I'm going to try to make it not lose the spec, however, it's going to be hit or miss. I estimate it will have about 9 shader stages...So...
28  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / Model Imports / Re: WIP Workshop on: August 06, 2015, 10:59:01 AM
skin is less pale as Seg wanted, and i tried my best to make the spots show more, using what Program suggested.  better?

also, them on a different stage, because why not.

and Program, to answer a previous question i forgot about, yes, they work fine on the Wii.  i don't have my Dolphin set up for Brawl mods, so everything i do is on my Wii.  they're actually pretty low poly, only about 17K polys/10K vertices, and that's for everything, both inklings, 4 sets of faces each, 2 sets of hair for each, and the additional edits i've done.
As for them working on the Wii, awesome! I don't use dolphin because my computer couldn't handle it. The skin still looks a bit pail, but better nontheless. No need to take me up on the offer, however, if you'd like I could adjust the textures for you. No to to collab, I always just put my name out there since textures are all I do.

I had to give Inkling Mario metals yesterday, so I thought to myself "normal metals are boring!"
At that moment I had an epiphany. Enjoy!

The only downside is temporary of shoe and facial hair spec... No big deal in my opinion.

checklist - correct all materials, brighten eyes, more color to hair, brighter shine, full ink tank.  that's all done, so how about now?

the original hair texture is black and white, so i was lazy and just dropped the opacity and slapped it on the colors to keep some of the detail, but it drained some of the color, plus the shine seemed to sap more of it away.  i think it looks better now, so thanks for the reminder to fix it.  as for the ink level, i had just left it where it was, but it'd make sense to have it full.

couldn't you just add Fluud to Mario's character model?  it may clip a little and wouldn't animate, but it'd at least be there.
I don't use 3dsmax and I tried just using Brawlbox... It was hilarious! As for their hair It looks better, except you can't see the spots very much. Something similar happened when I did the blue for Inkling Mario. You can fix it by putting a b&w copy of your texture over top of your colour. Then make the new b&w layer something like multiply or softlight, hopefully that helps in some way.

Needs moar fluud...
I tried...and failed. Brawl users will have it for their Down Special, however, PM users like myself will be neglected.
