Angel Island Zone by Stoney with credit to Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic 2
[Stage - Texture - Rumble Falls]

Download the Stage Select Screen Pack here:
http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=5640&Moderated=All

I always thought Brawl's rock remix of the Angel Island Zone BGM deserved its own stage, so I made this texture hack for Rumble Falls. The level was surprisingly accommodating, already containing a biplane, a waterfall, and ancient ruins that I could play around with and Sonic-ify. Plus the level is perfect for Sonic: his Up+B gives him ridiculous height and he can encourage everyone else to Step It Up (and not be Too Slow) during the fast-scrolling sections.

Most of the textures are from Angel Island Zone itself, but there are some exceptions that take their source material from elsewhere in the classic Sonic games. The platforms are from Marble Garden Zone and the wood textures are from Wood Zone, a cut level from Sonic 2. Once the level reaches the biplane (now re-textured to look like the Tornado's Sonic 3 sprite) you might also be able to spot the Hidden Palace mural, the Mushroom Hill vines, the Ice Cap mountains, some broken pieces of the Death Egg, and more Marble Garden ruins in the background.

Gusty Garden Galaxy: "White Feather in the Storm" Remix by Stoney with credit to CarboHydroM
[Audio - Stage/Menu]

For my 50th overall hack, I couldn't think of a better candidate than this song. It's a kickass punk rock remix of everyone's favorite BGM from Super Mario Galaxy!

Please note that although there was a version of this song submitted to Smashboards, it had a gap of silence between the end and beginning of the song; this version is looped seamlessly. Enjoy!

Megaman X on Samus + AIle ZSS by Kaye Cruiser, Stoney, LookItsLink, Uncle0wnage
[Character - Texture, Vertex - Samus]

The Megaman vertex hack ported to work on Samus with an enhanced Aile ZSS to go along with it. :3

Same glitch as the ported Master Chief, you have to grab up close like everyone else in the game.

Complete Stage Select Screen Font by Stoney with credit to BeyondYou
[Misc - Menu]

The mediafire download is the full-size version.

The original Brawl SSS Alphabet only had capital letters and numbers. I added lowercase letters, symbols, and punctuation marks to it. Now you can give your stages names like "@#*%" or "?!?!?".

Wind Waker Unplugged by Stoney with credit to Freddie25
[Audio - Stage/Menu]

I love Wind Waker's main theme and was heartbroken when it wasn't included in Brawl. Luckily, custom BRSTM music is here to save the day!

Freddie25 created this amazing rendition of the title theme for YouTube in December of 2008. He recorded himself playing all the instrument parts (including accordion, tin whistle, pan flute, spoons + drinking glasses, a cookie sheet, a spaghetti pot, and vocals) and then spliced the video footage together to create the finished song. In addition to being amazing to watch, I thought the music in the video sounded awesome, so I put it in Brawl. Never before has the Pirate Ship felt so festive!

Ayla (Ver. 2.0) by Stoney with credit to LenSho and Chrono Trigger
[Character - Texture, Vertex - Peach]

About a year ago I created a large batch of character textures that were inspired by the SNES/DS game Chrono Trigger. Unfortunately, some of the textures were rushed and had flaws. Now I'm finally getting around to fixing them while taking advantage of the vertex hacks now available.

Meet Ayla 2.0, now with 50% less clothing and 100% less white lines.

The pack contains 6 costumes (default, red, green, blue, Lucca, Marle) and a complete set of portraits, including victory screen portraits, in-battle portraits, and everything needed to modify the CSS.

I put some completed files in the CSS section with all the CSS portraits and other stuff (such as Ayla's name) already installed. These files were taken from a PAL copy of Brawl; if you're playing NTSC Brawl, I recommend that you not use them in your game, and manually insert the included PNGs into a separate copy of the files taken from your NTSC version. You can open up the PAL files with BrawlBox and use them as a guide to see where the PNGs go.

Alternatively, you can ignore me and use the PAL files in your NTSC copy - just make sure to back up the files you're replacing first.

All credit for the vertex hack goes to LenSho and his Cycler Outfit Rosalina. Thanks dude!

Angel Island Zone: Stage Select Screen Pack by Stoney
[Misc - Menu]

5/16/10: DOWNLOAD HAS BEEN FIXED.

This pack contains all of the files needed to change the Stage Select Screen while using the Angel Island Zone stage hack over Rumble Falls. All of the textures go in the MiscData[80] section inside the "sc_selmap.pac" file. Several icons and preview images are included. Choose your favorites.

If you don't feel like inserting the custom textures yourself, I've included a finished "sc_selmap.pac" file that is ready for putting on an SD card. EDIT 5/5/2010: The pack now contains both PAL and NTSC versions of the file.

Aile (Human) by Stoney with credit to Mega Man ZX Advent
[Character - Texture - Zero Suit Samus]

Mega Man ZX gets no love. I really enjoyed the series and felt I should honor it in some way, so I made a few texture hacks focused around the first game's female protagonist, Aile. Zero Suit Samus wound up being an excellent template for the character, since she and Aile share many similarities.

In Human form, Aile was able to crawl around and avoid enemies. ZSS can do that too. Aile was also able to "MegaMerge" into a few different forms using the power of Biometals, and with the help of a Smash Ball, ZSS can also do that.

I've created an accompanying texture for Samus's armored form as well.

Aile (Model ZX) by Stoney with credit to Mega Man ZX
[Character - Texture - Zero Suit Samus]

Mega Man ZX gets no love. I really enjoyed the series and felt I should honor it in some way, so I made a few texture hacks focused around the first game's female protagonist, Aile.

Model ZX was the second form Aile could MegaMerge into during Mega Man ZX. In addition to having a pistol that could fire plasma bullets, Model ZX had a plasma sword that could be used for melee combat. Zero Suit Samus's Paralyzer has both a pistol form and a whip form that could be passed off as a very elastic sword in a pinch.

Note: these pictures use an outdated version of the texture. The arms have since been fixed to look more like those of Model ZX.

I've created an accompanying texture for Samus's armored form as well.

Super Mario Galaxy: Credits by Stoney with credit to the Super Mario Galaxy Orchestra
[Audio - Stage/Menu]

There was a BRSTM for this track over at Smashboards, but it had audio errors and didn't loop properly, so I made a new BRSTM for it.

Super Mario Galaxy's soundtrack contains many amazing songs, but this one is my favorite. It's adventurous, moving, epic, and it captures the feeling of the game perfectly. Try putting it on Lylat Cruise!

Time Warp: Stage Select Screen Pack by Stoney
[Misc - Menu]

This pack contains all of the files needed to change the Stage Select Screen while using the Time Warp stage hack over Final Destination.

UPDATE 5/4/2010: The lowercase title image I included in the pack (it displays the name of the stage beneath the preview image) had an error; the words "Time" and "Warp" were way too close together. I fixed the PNG so the title looks more similar to how all the other stage titles are spaced. Download the fixed version here: http://www.mediafire.com/?nt5y4ynfnlz

Aile (Model OX) by Stoney with credit to Mega Man ZX and Mega Man Zero
[Character - Texture - Zero Suit Samus]

Mega Man ZX gets no love. I really enjoyed the series and felt I should honor it in some way, so I made a few texture hacks focused around the first game's female protagonist, Aile.

Model OX was a special Biometal that could only be obtained by defeating a secret boss in a hidden area of the first Mega Man ZX game. It makes Aile look identical to Zero, the protagonist of the Mega Man Zero series.

I've created an accompanying texture for Samus's armored form as well.

Zero's Theme: Metal Remix by Stoney with credit to DarKsidE555
[Audio - Stage/Menu]

Here's an awesome heavy metal remix of Zero's Theme from Mega Man X2, which was submitted to Newgrounds by user "DarKsidE555" three separate times over the course of three years.

The author had some interesting comments regarding this piece:

"With this piece I present a remix of this very memorable Theme of Zero, if not the best Theme of the hole X series for him. It's not just the original melody, nono, it's a story to be told. Imagen the two heroes facing each other in the battle that was meant to be from the start. The fight begins with the original melody, which is going right under the skin of retro-lovers such as myself. ;) After 30 seconds of nostalgie the actual remix sets in. Both made their first strike and for a second, the toms take out a little bit of the climax before the fight continues. From 0:30 - 0:52 it's a random fight in the room, they both deal damage to each other before taking their stances again for a short moment at 0:53. After that, the fight continues in an even heavier and more heroic way. The chinas and cymbals crashing indicate each time they clash together. At 1:22 X is thinking about the fight and back when he and Zero became friends. Not wanting the fight but still knowing he has to do it, X deals some heavy damage to Zero from 1:33 - 1:45. The last segment of the song describes the final attack of X, which defeats Zero..."

Anybody who plays Zero in Brawl should find this track VERY useful.

[Character - Texture - Samus]

Mega Man ZX gets no love. I really enjoyed the series and felt I should honor it in some way, so I made a few texture hacks focused around the first game's female protagonist, Aile.

Model X was the first form Aile could MegaMerge into during Mega Man ZX. Its arms could change into plasma-shooting Mega Buster guns and it was capable of wall-jumping repeatedly. In Brawl, Samus's armored form can do both of these things.

I've created accompanying textures for Zero Suit Samus as well.

Time Warp by Stoney with credit to Chrono Trigger
[Stage - Texture - Final Destination]

Welcome to Chrono Trigger's Final Destination. Literally. This stage is modeled after the last battlefield of the game, where you meet and defeat the final boss.

In the game, this area is a distortion in time, where the party can see into all of the game's time periods at once. This allowed me to use stuff from all over the game and give every era equal attention.

First of all, the fighting platform: it was cobbled together from pieces of the Black Omen, and it actually looks rather pretty in action.

Secondly, the stage itself: in the first area, Lavoids fly past the platform followed by meteorites that contain random sprites from the game's maps. Then Lavos's pocket dimension appears, followed by the Time Warp itself. In the far distance you can see the Time Freeze, and Lavos erupting from a galaxy. Both versions of the game's planet also make an appearance -- the colorful one you get in the game's good ending, and the lifeless gray one where the Future Refused to Change.

The second area is probably familiar to anyone who fought Chrono Trigger's final boss. I had to create the colored lines myself since there were no decent sprite rips of the background used in the game. Unfortunately I couldn't re-create the gradients in the stage, so the lines are stuck being different shades of green. As our Black Omen platform passes through this tunnel, they go from yellow-green to blue-green, and finally...

...We meet the big guy himself in the third area, which is effectively the "heart" of the distortion. As such, images from all the time periods make an appearance.

Moving on, we encounter a tunnel that includes every important PC and NPC sprite in the game in front of the End of Time, along with that ominous game over message. You can't really see it, but there are also translucent overlays of the Apocalypse in 1999 AD as well.

The final area is the time travel tunnel. This should be a familiar sight to anyone who played past Lucca's Telepod in the game.

As a side note: three pictures alone do not do this stage justice. I urge you to try it out for yourself to see all the cool stuff I wasn't able to show off here.

Saria by Stoney with credit to Register
[Character - Texture - Toon Link]

This was the first texture hack I ever made. It's a modification of Register's Young Link texture (and I got his permission to distribute it). Making this texture allowed me to learn the process of Brawl hacking while making something useful at the same time. Unfortunately, the texture-modification process of the time had limitations that caused the eyebrows to mess up. Thanks to BrawlBox, that problem has now been solved. So here I present to you one of my favorite characters from Ocarina of Time, Saria.

(Yes, I know the shield looks awkward. Blame Brawl, not me.)

Glenn by Stoney with credit to Chrono Trigger
[Character - Texture - Marth]

I have also made a Frog texture for Toon Link: http://forums.kc-mm.com/Gallery/BrawlView.php?Number=3251&Moderated=All

I threw the Guardia Dragon and the Hero's Medal all over these guys. The former was custom made by me in Adobe Illustrator and is based off of the shield sprites you see in 600 AD's Guardia Castle. The latter is on Glenn's sash and both of their sheathes. Both of their swords also contain Masa and Mune's sprites.

Ciel by Stoney with credit to Mega Man Zero
[Character - Texture - Zero Suit Samus]

Ciel was one of my favorite characters in the Mega Man Zero series. Luckily, after I finished creating my Aile textures, I was able to build upon the work I'd done to create this texture with a minimum of effort.

Boss Medley: "The Genius of Dr. Robotnik" by Stoney with credit to The Red Wings
[Audio - Stage/Menu]

If you've ever felt that there just wasn't enough Robotnik in your life, this is the song for you. It combines the boss themes from Sonic 1, Sonic 2, and Sonic 3 & Knuckles into one singular electric-guitar remix that kicks all sorts of blue hedgehog butt. Try replacing Porky's Theme with it and then fighting him in the Subspace Emissary!

Super Mario 64 Credits: Rock Remix by Stoney with credit to The Red Wings
[Audio - Stage/Menu]

The Red Wings are a video game music cover band comprised of three punk rockers from Birmingham, England. Ever since 2006, they've been re-arranging their favorite video game tunes for the rock genre using a combination of keyboard synths, bass, drums, and of course electric guitar.

One of my favorite tunes from Super Mario 64 was the song in the credits sequence. For me, it brought a wonderful sense of closure to the fantastic adventure that Super Mario 64 was. Unfortunately, not everyone shares my view, and decent remixes of the song are surprisingly hard to find. Leave it to the Red Wings to solve that problem.

Ice Cap Zone: "FaceMelting Base" Remix by Stoney with credit to OverClocked Remix's Remixanator
[Audio - Stage/Menu]

Four words: HEAVY METAL ICE CAP.

OC Remix celebrated April Fools Day with a major overhaul of their site. They chose to remove the human component of remixing from the equation, and have all remixes on their site be produced by an automated computer program called the Remixanator.

This is one of the base tracks that the Remixanator "enhanced" with such amazing features as cowbell, off-key vocals, and synths so high-pitched they'd make your dog cry. I thought the base track kicked ass by itself and edited it to remove the fade-out at the end, leaving it ripe for looping.

Twinkle Park / It Doesn't Matter: "The Twinkle Park Classic" Remix by Stoney with credit to DarkeSword and OverClocked ReMix
[Audio - Stage/Menu]

Even before Darkesword became a judge who helped determine which remixes get featured on the OverClocked ReMix site, he was still one of my favorite composers. We apparently share the exact same tastes in music, and with the level of skill he displays it is unsurprising that he has gotten to his current position.

The Twinkle Park Classic is one of his earlier mixes and is a fairly laid-back electronica trance rendition of the Twinkle Park cart section (which itself was lifted from Panic Puppet Zone in Sonic 3D Blast). Also included is the lovely-as-always It Doesn't Matter, the theme of Sonic. Try putting this song on a stage with a lot of bright flashy lights; Port Town Zero Dive is recommended.

Knuckles' Themes: "Unknown from M.C." Remix by Stoney with credit to Jose Bronx Rican and OverClocked ReMix
[Audio - Stage/Menu]

Hey guys, I heard you liked Knuckles' rap, so I looped a remix that combines all the rapping he did in SA2 into one song. It uses Wild Canyon's melody as the base for its chorus, but the lyrics come from Knuckles' theme and all of his levels. Many of the lyrics have been modified by the author to be less cheesy and more badass.

Use this song on whichever level you feel could benefit most from a gangsta echidna's words of wisdom.
