So I've been trying to vertex edit some models...but I can't, I'm being thrown off by one thing...

Something goes nuts when I import the modded vertacies.

By that I mean that where I put the modded polygon, there are infinately huge planes going each way from where the polygon should be.

I'm doing everything according to the tutorial on Youtube...so what's the problem? (I use blender)

And even then, I'm having issues just swapping out pre-modded vertacies. I tried to get Rosalina's sleeves and hair onto Jewelless Peach...and BOOM, same problem.

    Help...

    EXACTLY like that.

LookItsLink and I have been discussing this for the past hour or so, and we've come to a conclusion

    It's a complete frickin' mystery.

    Wait, do you use Vista?

That was happening to me when I was editing Mario and Luigi's caps...
What solved my problem was to skip the Anim8tr step.

I imported the vertex into the model just after editing with 3ds max and voilá.

    Hope it helps you.

EDIT: I just re-read and you guys use blender... so ignore this XD

Well that shoots my theory out the window.

So then it's not the OS...what the devil could it be?

I was having the same problem with Windows Vista and today switched to Windows 7, nothing changed. If i were to guess as to why this is happening, it has something to do with DasDonkey because i just exported my vertex.ddf and my model.mdl0 and immediately after creating a 3ds file with DD i used DD to make a new model.mdl0 with the non-altered files. The problem of course was still there.

I don't know if that helps anyone but that's the lead I'm going with right now. I don't know if it is different for anyone else.

I'm having the exact same problem. I also tried only using my vertexbox and what do you know? it still did it. I think the problem is in the inserting the file to the mdl0, because when i mod things i can see in blender exactly how it should look, and nothing changes in game.
Which brings me to another point. when i looked through forums, this problem occurs ALOT.
One person posted a commet that haad me think of a possible fix. He said that he hadnt done vertex for a while, and that it all the sudden stopped working. if that's so, he might have downloaded a different version of vertex box( I don't know if ther's more than one version) and that could be causing the problems for blender users. I'll look into it and tell you what I find.

Ok, so i realized that i was bein really retarded. you need to use anim8or after the vbox stage, and it works unedited through blender THAT way. If anything, this personal discovery makes things all the more confusing.

You guys are probably getting tired of my continual posts, but i've made a few discoverys in this error.
So ive been going through the steps of the process with a fine tooth computer comb, and i figuered out something that might be vital to solving the problem.
I decided to skip blender and just use anim8or to convert to obj and than back to 3ds and guess what happend? it didnt work. So what I did was I downloaded a nifty little program called milkshape. I used this program to replace anim8or in conversion of files( note, i got the 30 day trial. I'm not willing to spend money on useless junk unless I have a use for it) and it had a similar result, except the infinate line went only in 1 direction instead of 5. So I tried 2 other programs(polytrans, Deep exploration) and neither of them worked. (meaning the infinate line scenario popped up again). So that means that milkshape is the closest thing we have to an answer. So now that i identified ( I'm 99% sure)the problem, I'd be REALLY apreciative if someone could find a 3ds to obj to 3ds  convverter that doesnt change the files.(or do whatever anim8tor does to cause the error)

What version of anim8or is everyone using? If you're using v0.95, try switching. I personally use the v0.97 Preview one and I have no problems.

I have been having this problem as well, but I use the v0.97 preview (but I do switch computers since anim8or needs a 32-bit system). Any ideas? Is it necessary to use an .obj file, since Blender can import .3ds files?

For the people that are using 3ds max, try not doing the anim8or step.  That worked for me.  I dunno how to fix the one with blender though.  You could maybe try not doing it too and see if that solves your problem.

I tried to import a .3ds to blender but it didn't work. And I am using anim8or 0.97 preview.
