stage model hacking

i'm using brawlbox v0.60. i want to use the background from the level 1 target test stage, but the stage itself is part of the same modeldata as the background. what do i need to remove so that i just get the background, or if i can at least make it invisible?

Copy and paste the texture. Awesome Face

Unless its one of the stages with no background texture. (Green Hill, Rainbow Cruise)

can i paste it with a transparent/invisible version of the texture so it wouldn't show up in the game?

Edit: i've replaced each texture not part of the background with their transparent versions created with photoshop, but it freezes before the stage is loaded up on brawl. any suggestions?
