Help & Tutorials / Help / I don't know what I'm doing wrong...

Ok, so I totally need help with texture hacking. I just started the other day, so I'm pretty new to it. (Noob, if you will.) I'm doing everything I think I should be doing, like putting files write were they should be all everything like that. I've watch tons of videos and read lots of guides, but apparently something's wrong. So far I've got Homebrew and Gecko on my Wii. ________________________
PROBLEM:
When I start Brawl through Gecko, Gecko tells me that it found codes on my SD card and is applying them, but when I get to playing the game, the textures do not show.
________________________
I know for a fact that all these things are perfectly good:
1) My Wii 2) My 2GB SD card (I know the files must be mixed up or something, but the card itself is not defected in any way) 3) My Homebrew channel (Installed on my Wii and loads up great) 4) My Gecko OS v1.9 (app for Homebrew)
________________________
And this is what my SD card looks like:
> SD CARD ROOT
---> apps (folder)
------> Gecko1931 (folder)
----------> boot.elf (file)
----------> icon.png (picture)
---------> meta.xml (file)
---> codes (folder)
------> RSBE01.gct (file)
---> private (folder)
------> wii (folder)
----------> app (folder)
-------------> rsbe (folder)
----------------> st (custom stages folder- empty though)
----------------> RP (Replays folder - empty though)
----------------> pf (folder) -------------------> fighter (folder) ----------------------> mario (folder) -------------------------> fitmario01.pcs (file)
-------------------> stage (folder) -------------------------> melee (folder)
-------------------> RSBE01.gct (file)
------------> Code Manager.exe (Ocarina code manager)
------------> Code Manager.ini (part of Ocarina code manager)
------------> Replays_Longer_Than_3mins.txt (code file that does work)
------------> Replays_with_tags_on.txt (code file that does work)
------------> File_Replacement.txt (Phantom Wings code - Not sure, but doesn't seem to work. I mean, I can't see any textures.)
---> boot.elf (file)
---> installer.log (file)
________________________
So, with that, can anyone tell me what to fix my problem? I've tried everything I know to do, but it just doesn't seem to work. I'm pretty sure it's something with how my SD card is set up.

Help & Tutorials / Help / Different files?

I'm looking through the Brawl vault and I notice that some files are .pac , .rir , and .zip. I'm new to all this, so I was wondering what difference these things mean. Can I only download certain ones? Or is it just something I shouldn't be concerned about? I read the noob's guide thing and didn't see anything in there about it.

Help & Tutorials / Help / New And Need Help.

Hey everyone, I'm new here and like the title says, I need some help. These might be stupid questions or already asked/answered questions, so anyone who can answer or tell me where to go to find the answers would be much appreciated. So here it goes.
I've been looking through the brawl vault the last few days, and I want to try to get some of the texture hacks. But, I'm a little skeptical about hacking. So, I don't want to just jump into hacking without knowing what I'm doing. Also, I want to take the safest possible way I can. So here are my questions:
1) Do I need to get Hombrew?
2) Could installing Homebrew brick my Wii?
3) Is Homebrew the only thing I need to texture hack? (Along with the codes of course.)
4) Can I take the Homebrew channel off my Wii at any given time I want, and do it safely?
5) Once I get the texture hacks for Brawl, is it still possible the play Brawl the original way (with no hacks) at any time?
6) How much of risk am I taking by trying to texture hack? (I do not want to make any texture hacks myself. I simply want to play with textures from the Brawl Vault - and that's it.)
------
Thanks!
