76  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / General Hacking Discussion / Re: So what do you think about Project M 2.1? on: October 05, 2012, 01:22:17 PM
Have to say, the failure bit is unprofessional, where as the rest of the project feels pretty professional. I use the classic, which only has minor differences to the gc.

Forget it. Not gonna happen.
Why do you guys keep bringing it up? Points have been pointed out on why ratings will never happen.

I, honestly, don't see what else we could add to the Vault.
Forrealzies guys, not gonna happen isn't a valid response to questions like that. You should all try to be more like miacis and actually answer questions like that.

That being said, what's the rules on pack submissions anyways?

I look forward to seeing it then

I understand and agree with everything you're saying 100%, and I addressed all of those things in my original post...

I could have compared it to any existing rating system. And I'm not sure why people are still suggesting poor ideas.

is the camera/scenedata animated or does each model move seperately?

Download count isn't always indicative of quality.
Case in point.
These apps are all super popular but don't run well on android. I'd give some brawlvault examples but I haven't been using any.  Reguardless, a "staff picks" sounds like what Miacis and Vyse have been talking about; that sounds pretty cool.

Also, there's different kinds of people y'know. There's a reason when when you sort by highest rated on a porn site the material is better than the most viewed.  There's a difference between everyday porn watchers like you and I and porn connoisseurs that actually take the time to rate the material.

As to vyse's reply to my post, it sounds like you're against ratings in general. Kind of a matter of opinion...
85  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / General Hacking Discussion / Re: Hacking Quality is down! News at 10! on: October 01, 2012, 02:04:13 PM
If you put it that way, I agree he was rude in the OP, yes, just as rude as you were on your reply to him. So I'd either go for both of you or just let it go and actually ask you both to not turn this into a flame war.
That's hypothetical, I wouldn't have been able to respond if it was locked/removed immediately.  It's a sad call for attention and it's looking for trouble.
I'm an [censored]
We've established that

There are different methods of ratings and reviews that avoid all of the listed problems.  First, I don't think that "arbitrary" works as an argument against ratings or reviews.  While there are many aspects that are based on preference, I wouldn't consider game ratings or movie ratings arbitrary.  There are systems in place there, many factors are considered, and personal taste isn't a large determiner of movie or game ratings.
The point of ratings and reviews is to fairly evaluate something and indicate its relative merit for the benefit of the user.  Bottom line: ratings and reviews are beneficial to the users.  They highlight good qualities and they show problems.  They can put deserving things in the spotlight they deserve, and vise versa.  Besides screenshots, nothing is really indicative of those things on brawl vault now, unless the creator makes a self-review and puts it in the description box.
Obviously, having a rating system similar to say, youtube's, is impractical because as stated, they would be abused and misused.  I do not doubt that for a second in this community.  For that reason, it wouldn't be realistic to propose a rating system in which everyone could contribute to.  There have been efforts made by some to create reviews, such as
SilentDoom's
. They're unbiased, quality reviews. Ain't nothing wrong with these reviews.

All that being said, my preposition is this: A review subboard that has some kind of qualification/restricted access/special privilege magic.  Set up a rubric/template for reviews and scoring, similar to IGN's but with pertaining sections and clear guidelines. Add a read/submit review to the brawl vault entries, similar to csps, and have a box for the forum link, and a box for the score.  Use a system like Metacritic's to calculate a weighted average and throw out outliers. Easy math, not resource intensive. People that abuse it can be removed from the review board.

Yeah, that's my suggestion. Ratings and reviews are beneficial to the community; they allow for constructive feedback that helps modders improve their works, they give users of brawl vault more insight into what they are downloading before they download it, and they allow people that don't contribute to the community through brawl vault submissions to contribute in this way.  I really think something like this would be beneficial to brawl vault.  Please consider.

And why would this topic have any need of being moderated? So far, it looks clean, aside from Noah's reponse to Velen's OP (Which called for it, as it was a straight punch in the face to those modders), where both are clearly being straight forward. So long as there's no splicit insults and everything is about hacks and their quality, it should be fine.
If I made a few topics calling out a few specific brawl vault submissions and saying how fugly they were and how much they sucked, there wouldn't be a problem?
88  Welcome / Rules / Feedback / Brawl Vault / Re: Brawl Vault Problems, Updates, and Suggestions on: September 30, 2012, 02:01:37 PM
Because the answer is always no.  It's always been no and it will always be no.  I'm 99% sure that the site isn't gonna relent because of anything that any one person says, be they a new user or a veteran such as yourself.
So, you're saying the reason that there shouldn't be a rating system or discussion of rating system is that the answer is no? I object!
89  Welcome / Rules / Feedback / Brawl Vault / Re: Brawl Vault Problems, Updates, and Suggestions on: September 30, 2012, 01:59:03 PM
*grabs popcorn*
Just Kidding

I'm sure most of the reviews would be
-omg i hate dis delete now
-can u make my sonic oc?
-CAN I MAKE RECOLORS?
-This is why the brawl vault quality is down
This is avoidable.

I want someone (preferably someone who actually decides things like picano or vyse) to illustrate all the points of why they don't want a rating/review system before I make my argument.
