76  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / General Hacking Discussion / Re: The Real Reason the Community is Dying. on: March 12, 2015, 03:19:46 AM
Do also keep in mind that a large portion of our userbase is quite very young, and has always been since pretty much day one. (I suppose that is to be expected when we're talking about Nintendo products?) Not many of us were able to set ourselves into a good work routine when we were 13, or even had acquired any true critical view on our own work.

Thing is, back in the day, you needed to jump through some crazy ass hoops to make even a basic retexture, so generally people dropped out fast. Those who stayed solidified the community because really, once you had gotten the hang of it, it wasn't that bad.
Same could be said when we were all doing vertex edits. Now we've all got better tools and projects like P:M have got people easily jump-start projects on their own. "If one project succeeded, why not mine?" It also gives them a base of already-made customizations to start off from.

Let's be clear, I'm not putting the blame on anyone here. Not on developpers, and not on P:M (for once Tongue). I just think there tends to be a natural dilution of knowledge as a community like this progresses, and what used to be a steep entry step became a nicer slope.
I feel we didn't have as many of these "newbies don't learn/vets are too elitist" arguments back then, because vets more or less stuck with vets, and newbies stuck with each other. Now there's not as much of a divide, people need to interact with people of different skill levels they aren't used to dealing with, and now look at that, everyone's calling someone else responsible for it all.

I mean yeah, things haven't been going great in a lot of ways, and there's definitely some room for improvement. Our hosting iissues (and an advertising plan that comes with it...) need to be settled sooner than later, and I've been looking into doing some Tutorial clean-up duty.
But really, I don't believe the overall "mentality" has got anything to do with it.

Well, if any of you guys have any sound advice on how to improve things, we're here to help, or at least listen.

To be honest, so far I see a lot of very good intentions, but not much in the way of resolutions or solutions. Unfortunately, good intentions only reach so much of the community.

I still didn't have my question answered yet. Do we need perfect translating skills, or is it just recommended?
"Perfect translation skills" isn't really a thing that exists. So the more skillful the better.

However, China currently ranks 70th (0.02%) in terms of visits on this website. I don't think a Mandarin translation of the rules will be necessary.

Spanish translation is okay since we do have a bunch of traffic and users from Mexico and other central/south America countries.
(And maybe Japanese. Maybe.)

Not to mention that Google Translate is doing not too bad to translate into English. Provided that the poster have mastered their own language and avoid colloquialismes and other weird idioms. And re-checks the result that Google gives as there are mistakes that even a non-native can recognize.

For the record, and despite my bilingualism, this entire post was translated from French (another Romance language) by Google. Only two obvious mistakes were changed by myself. Not bad for an automatic translator, eh?  Wink
80  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / General Hacking Discussion / Re: Might someone 'pay' or make a donation for a hack request? on: December 22, 2014, 06:49:04 PM
No, it's still completely irrelevant.

1- Simply building models is perfectly legal.
2- Hacking of any sort is indeed infringing copyrights and other hardware protection legislations, but the question was not about legality but about whether KCMM allows the practices or not, which we do.
3- Money-making literally has nothing to do with the legality of things. We ask for people to be discreet for other reasons.
4- Yes, people sometimes do it for free. The person is asking in the case of payments though, so that second sentence was pointless.

Just do your deal in private, and most importantly, keep in mind the forum takes no responsibility if either the customer or the hacker gets ripped off. That means if [censored] hits the fan, you'll have to solve it on your own, and not raise a fuss here.

PS: That's the kind of thing you should probably ask the staff and not the generally legally-uninformed userbase, btw. Moderation Corner and PMs are the prime way to reach us, if you have any other questions of the sort.

I am highly certain that it is illegal to request paying someone to do it.
However, people on here who model like to do it for free anyways.

Can you both stop spamming a mere help thread with your antics?

It's a help thread. You give out info, and if someone's info is bad or not good enough, just post to correct it. It's still better than no answer.
Of course, that shouldn't stop anyone from looking up their [censored] before opening their mouth either.

Regardless, this is definitely not the place to start a sass competition, so cut it out you two.

Okay, Mia, I honestly fail to fathom the reason behind the trolling this time...
Meh, it's not even trolling, just kinda having fun with Philosopy of Language concepts to say "I dunno, the answer he was expecting seemed pretty obvious to me."
I mean, I could just have said the latter, but that's just the boring way of phrasing it instead of the almost self-caricature I just put up. Simply keep in mind that even under my dose of sass, I'm always trying to bring up some good point. (Or at least a point that seems good to me. Opinions may differ.)
85  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / General Hacking Discussion / Re: [Official] Project M discussion: 3.5 coming soon! on: December 02, 2014, 09:01:32 AM
Because we wanted to? I don't know what type of answer you were expecting.

Based on the presumption of optimal relevance, I believe the author makes it clear that they consider post-timeskip could have been a better choice, possibly (but that's mere speculation) because it would supplement Adult Link's OoT look better, or because it's a more effective representation of Ganon in his original game, as the one form you ultimately confront as player.
Through the use of the interrogative adverb "why" (1. For what cause, reason, or purpose) , the author was most certainly expecting the arguments behind that inclusion, otherwise asking the question that way wouldn't have followed the principles of relevant communication.

Any news of the recent "Leak" of Lyn, Knuckles and Isaac?

I heard about these guys (and a couple others...) more than a year ago, and have kept hearing echoes of them from different sources ever since without even having to look for them. You guys are slow.

Is it even a "leak" anymore when a member of the PMDT streamed it publicly?

Yeah, as a rule of thumb, look us up on Facebook if you ever see us down. We'll post news as soon as we know what's going on.

In this case, it was a long and rather convoluted story that mostly revolved around three key facts:
- Someone on our shared server (maybe us, maybe not) was having an abnormal amount of traffic.
- Our host was being really slow to resolve the situation.
- Our host was being really stupid in general.

We might have to do something about key facts #2-3. More info on that during the week.

Ah, well I'm certainly glad that Strong Bad agrees with me so wholeheartedly. Smiley

Not sure whether I agree with the idea of dissociating the death threats from the issue of P:M not being present at Apex, however. It's entirely possible I missed something, but weren't the threats specifically meant to protest against the latter decision?

Those are some really fancy ZSS alts. And that Metal Cavern is legitimately impressive. Hotdamn, so many details.

What's with the whole left side of the Iceberg though? It looks... oddly low-poly.
88  Super Smash Bros. Brawl Hacking / General Hacking Discussion / Re: [Official] Project M discussion: 3.5 coming soon! on: November 12, 2014, 06:11:39 PM
You mustn't have been looking anywhere else than this very specific thread, then. Judging by your registration date a few months back, it would make sense. You probably haven't seen what I've seen either.
I think it's pretty obvious at this point that there are few unresolved contentions with the PMBR that were never really settled, so no, I'm not exactly putting on my tact gloves there. And seeing how maturely my interlocutors have reacted to my remarks, I... honestly don't see much reason to do things differently.

As for the death threats I'm... not sure how that would even work. You don't sweep things under the rug and hope everything goes away. Nobody's going to uproot the weed in the community for you if the guys in charge are just looking elsewhere in the garden.

Heck, just looking about the Reddit P:M, people still seem more concerned about setting up a P:M side tournament for Apex than the actual threats (because I'm sure the Apex staff would love to have to deal with that kinda stuff on top of the threats).
When I look at all the comments regarding the P:M exclusion decision, all I see is a lot of pent-up rage and overexaggerated indignation over a video game mod. With a situation neglected as it is, it's honestly no wonder Alex received that kinda [censored].

(You guys seriously don't think yourselves mature enough to answer my simple questions without flaming me? oô )

Speaking of Apex, still nothing public anounced by the big wigs regarding the death threats sent to the Apex staff?
I've heard of some miscontent in the PMDT, but... well that's not exactly action.

Or did the release trailer seriously take priority there?
