1  Help & Tutorials / Help / Previewer - Attempted to read or write protected memory on: April 22, 2012, 05:20:19 AM
I've been trying to get back into modding since a while and I set up .NET Framework and similar crap on my freshly installed system. BrawlBox's 0.63d previewer worked after I uninstalled language packs for .NET Framework.

That was a few weeks ago, right now I can't run it again, receiving the same error message, nearly identical to one present in that thread: http://forums.kc-mm.com/index.php?topic=8513.0
The difference is that uninstalling language packets didn't help this time.

That's what happens when I try to open any model in 0.63d's previewer. In case of newer BrawlBox versions by BlackJax, there is only "BrawlBox v0.6something has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

I also tried updating graphic card drivers and .NET Framework, but these didn't help either. I'd be glad if anyone provided a solution that worked. Thanks in advance.

edit: I'm using Windows XP with updates installed.

3  Help & Tutorials / Help / SD Card and music on: September 11, 2011, 12:32:57 PM
Ever since I've started using File Patch Code, I had big problems with music replacing. The original BRSTMs replacements almost never worked, those used with Custom Sound Engine broke every once in a while (pretty much like every 3-4 song changes, sometimes it lasted till I reset the game). Today I've formatted the SD card to FAT filesystem instead of FAT32 and it started working much better than before. The songs replacing the music that was in game break pretty much like CSE songs before, and those are interrupted rarely (but still happens). The question is: what should I do to make the songs work every time they play? Is that even possible? I'm not fond of idea of getting another SD card just for Brawl and I've been defragmenting the SD card pretty often before the format (but it didn't really help that much).

Thanks in advance.
4  Help & Tutorials / Music/SFX Tutorials / SFX in your Brawl - Tutorial for absolute beginners on: August 28, 2011, 05:07:18 PM
I've got quite a few messages regarding this topic and I see a lot of people still having trouble with this thing. I also see some people just ignoring SFX modding, because they think it's so hard to get into even using SFX mods (thankfully, it only looks like that). Those reasons caused me to write this short tutorial, so you all can enjoy your different-sounding Smash.

I assume you have already set up your Wii for using Brawl mods. If you haven't and somehow landed here, check this thread and return when you've finished setting up.

Step 1 - Obtaining the smashbros_sound.brsar
This big file has almost all of the samples that play in Brawl. (almost, because there is also a second one for what I assume is Mr. Resetti's speech, but no-one was interested in editing that so far) To install SFX mods, you'll need it.
Later on, I'll refer to smashbros_sound.brsar as "the brsar".
smashbros_sound.brsar from NTSC-U Brawl
smashbros_sound.brsar from PAL Brawl
NOTE: It is important to have the brsar that matches your version of Brawl.

Step 2 - Installing the SFX packs you want to have
You must assure all of the packs you want to insert are compatible with your brsar.
This is the hardest part, but still easy as hell in certain situations. To insert most of the packs, you need Sawndz. You can obtain the newest version here. If you want to install some older packs, you may also want to get Sawndz 0.072. It's in the same thread.
After you have downloaded Sawndz, unpack it and put the brsar in the same directory.
There is a variety of filetypes you may encounter. Here is how do you deal with them.
Note: If one of the SFX packs you want to get it is either a hex packet or a bunch of .dats and .wavs, you must insert those first. .sawnd and .wav files insertion affects the offsets in your brsar and may make the hex packets and .dats from old Sawndz unusable without deeper intervention.
- .sawnd file. This means good news for you - all you have to do is run Sawndz, click Insert .sawnd, choose that file and voila - it's done. Contrary to a popular belief, you don't need to fill in anything.
- Bunch of .wav files. It's still simple to insert, but requires a bit more hassle from you. Open the readme file that should have came with the waves and fill the blanks using the instructions from there. Then choose the respective .wav file and wait till the inserting is done. Repeat till done for all files.
- Bunch of .wav and .dat files. This is more painful to get working than just .wav files. If one of the packs you want to install is those, you should absolutely insert these first. The same applies to hex packets, which I will talk about later. To get those to work without thinking much, you need an older Sawndz version - I recommend Sawndz 0.072, the last one before program got radically changed. Just like in case of new Sawndz, you need the brsar in the same directory. Run the old Sawndz. From "Saves" field, choose Load button and pick a .dat. Rename the respective .wav to "sound.wav", put it into the directory with Sawndz and click "Convert & Insert". Repeat till done for all of the .dats/.wavs.
- A hex packet. Those are relatively simple to insert, but if you want to get your SFX mods working quickly, you should insert them before .sawnd files and .wavs, so you don't have to struggle with offsets on your own. There are many ways of inserting these, I'll talk about Sawndz 0.072 one. In Offset of beginning field, enter the offset that should have come with the hex packet. Click Insert from Hex packets field, choose the packet you want to get in and wait till it's done.

Step 3 - Getting the smashbros_sound.brsar to work with your modded Brawl
In this point, I have bad news for Gecko OS users. smashbros_sound.brsar can't be replaced with stable File Patch code. You need to use WiiScrubber to swap the original file with the altered brsar.
If you're a Riivolution user, the location of where your brsar should be on your SD card is dependent on the xml you're using. Most common cases:
- If you're using the template, it goes into SD:/ssbb/, like everything.
- If you're using the xml for past Gecko OS users, it goes into SD:/private/wii/app/RSBE/pf/sound/.

And that's all, guys. Enjoy your sounds. If something is unclear, ask away.
5  Help & Tutorials / Help / Cracker launcher glitch fix on: August 21, 2011, 03:12:30 PM
Today, I've tried to fix a glitch - cracker launcher being held always straight up. I have no idea why it doesn't work now. I saw it could be fixed with imports (I recall seeing a screenshot of Waluigi correctly holding that item). How can I get the cracker launcher thingy to work?

Thanks in advance for replying.

Special thanks to:
diedhammer98 - I wouldn't do ChuChus if it weren't for his bob-omb mods
EternalYoshi - grab glitch fix help
Mr.Weegee - Tails over Sonic creator
Pik - smexy Tails texture
Pixels - smexy CSP stuff
Raijinmaru (Reaver Ind.) - second voice pack
snoopy - model swapping tutorial

Some of the moves are loosely based on Tails moveset in SSB Crusade - a SSB fangame.

THE MOVESET
Jab - Tails continuously spins around, hitting enemies with his tails (like after obtaining Rhythm Badge in SA). He stops when player releases the A button. Each hit deals a little damage with fixed knockback.

FTilt - Triple hit combination - two slices finished with a sissy-like dart. Note that you have to keep pressing A to do the whole move.
- no new screenshot yet -

UTilt - Tails spawns a mechanical glove at his wrist. More damage is dealed when an enemy is hit by the glove.
- no new screenshot yet -

DTilt - Tails takes out his wonderful gun and zaps the foe with a shot of electricity. The slowest of his tilts.

FSmash - Miles executes a powerful Tail Swipe on the enemy in front of him.

USmash - A poor soul above the two-tailed hero, who does a handstand, is hit a few times with his tails. Although the damage may seem to be a little small, this smash has quite a big range.

DSmash - Tails begins to spin around, sucking his competitors in, and then launching in the air.

Dash Attack - A dropkick.

NAir - Tails spins around a few times, hitting the foes with his body. First hit is stronger than other ones.

FAir - Mighty hit inspired by SSBC.

BAir - Tails prevents surprise buttsecks zaps the intruder who wanted to attack him from behind.

UAir - Tails hitting attack. Last hit is stronger than others.

DAir - Single tails hit below Miles. Sends the foe (almost) straight down to hell, but other than that, it's a pretty weak attack.

Pummel - A weak knee hit.

FThrow - Thunder Shoot. Opponent is launched forward. It's a good move to use when you're holding a bad guy and more are coming.
- no new screenshot yet -

BThrow - Tails turns around, zaps the victim 3 times and releases him.

UThrow - Miles jumps with foe in his hands and lands, throwing him.

DThrow - 4 tails hits (2% each) ended with a throw.

NSpecial - An electrical pseudo-projectile. It's pretty quick and is always shot to the front. It can be used only once in mid-air, second try results in DSpecial.

DSpecial - Tails places an explosive Bob-Omb (reminiscent of a ChuChu) in front of him. That little pest walks around till it meets anyone (including his father) or it's timer reaches zero. Either way, it explodes. In mid-air, Tails is put into special fall after the move.

I couldn't get the vertex to work, so yeah.

USpecial - Flight, simply said. Tails flies up for a little while, player can control him with his control stick. After that, he goes into the special fall state. Miles is completely defenseless while this special lasts, so it has to be used with care.

SSpecial - Spindash! But, this one is more similar to Captain Falcon's Raptor Boost than Sonic's spindash. Tails rolls up into a ball and spins his way through for a short distance. If an enemy stumbles upon our hero, he gets hit and Tails has an option to quickly do another attack (don't worry though, you can use the spindash only once before landing - you can't spam your enemy to oblivion). However, if it misses, Tails goes into special fall state and dies in a gruesome way if he flied out of the stage.

Final Smash - Super Tails! Tails launches two flickies upwards, next another pair appears, but flies to the sides of screen. If your opponent has damage, it's pretty much his end.
- no screenshot yet-

Moves above may be a subject to change.

PROBLEMS

As of V2, there are only minor item-related problems left, the biggest one being Cracker Launcher not held right. No freezes.

7  Help & Tutorials / Help / Grab lasts very short time on: June 02, 2011, 11:46:51 AM
I've did a model swap and I have this glitch occurring. There is no freezing, the grab itself looks fine, but it lasts way shorter than it should. Could someone remind me what is the fix for this problem? Thanks in advance.
8  Help & Tutorials / Help / CSS BG Colors on: May 11, 2011, 03:26:42 PM
I've wanted to make my CSS darker. What palette is responsible for background colors? The way I've found so far is altering "Ready to start" palette, but this way, I can only get fully black BG (or colors get duller), which I don't want.

10  Help & Tutorials / Help / .rel swapping on: March 30, 2011, 02:03:08 PM
I've replaced st_dolpic.rel with one that's modified with Stage Switcher, so I could put Final Destination based stage over Dolphino Plaza. It worked. But when I'm trying to do the same with Battlefield and Halberd, there is a silent freeze for some reason (even when I'm trying to put a stage that works over another stage). :/

What could cause it? I'm using NTSC-U Brawl. Thanks in advance.
11  Help & Tutorials / Help / Getting modified CSS to work on: March 25, 2011, 04:22:58 PM
Does anybody know where should I put the sc_selcharacter_en.pac file modified with CSS Organizer? After switching to NTSC-U Brawl all I've gotten to work is modified CSS images. Putting sc_selcharacter_en.pac edited with the program into the common5_en.pac results with a loud BEEEEEEEEEEEEEe when accessing the CSS.

What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance.
12  Help & Tutorials / Help / Screwed model swap on: September 19, 2010, 01:29:34 PM
I've tried to swap Tails over Sonic. I've added the bones, modified the pac file (FitSonic.pac) with Tabuu. It ran, but this is how it looks like.
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmFMtEqOBhE" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmFMtEqOBhE</a>

What works:
- Moving around and smashing others
- Shielding (but his body grows bigger when doing so, I think it needs an additional bone)
- Grabbing others
- Result screen
What doesn't
- Picking up items (even though I changed the bones in Tabuu)
- Hurtboxes (same as above)
- It looks screwy.
Does anybody know if it's possible to fix, and if so, how to fix it? What I've probably done wrong? Thanks in advance. Please write a message if there is something wrong with this post or a similar problem has already been covered (sorry then).
