Uh, hi. I'm having an issue with my common5.pac file. When I load the game, it freezes when I select "BRAWL" (Before the CSS). I'm assuming there's something wrong with the way I put my CSPs on there.

I've looked at the CSP tutorials, but they're not specific about the process of saving PNGs or replacing them in BrawlBox (assuming that's the problem).

I know there's a file size limit for the common5.pac (which is 11.6 MB, I think), but mine is 5.73 MB. (And it still freezes.)

So do the individual file sizes of each portrait have to be lower than the original? Like, on Photoshop should I have saved the PNG file with lower quality settings? Or when I go to "Replace" the CSP, should I change the number of colors/format/algorithm? Or is Pin0yB0i just really silly and way off?

Are all your images sized with 128x160? And do you use Riivo or Gecko? If you use Riivo, then you also need a "menu2" folder in your pf folder with the sc_selcharacter and sc_selmap...

Yes. All of the images are sized to 128x160. And I use Gecko (but I have a menu2 folder in my pf folder, anyway >_>).

EDIT: I decided to add the CSPs to a new common5.pac from scratch, then I noticed that 2 of the CSPs that I used where 120x160, instead of 128x160. I'm assuming that caused the freezing. When I finish the common5.pac and load it into Brawl, I'll update back later if this resolved it or not...

So it turns out there were 4 CSPs in the common5.pac that weren't 128x160. Apparently, if the image size for one CSP is ONE pixel off, the game will freeze immediately after pressing "Brawl". All I did was resize them to what it's supposed to be.

And it works, and my problem is resolved!!

Hope this helps anyone else having the same problem in the future.

I have a portrait to original 128x160 and it freezes, change it to 120x150 and it worked again, I don't know why original portraits are allowed to be 128x160 but custom ones not, I guess original must use some more sophisticated compression method.
