I just started working on CSPs about 2 days ago. it was working fine till today.....i had about 70 CSPs added, when i tried to add more it froze when i hit BRAWL! i can't seen to figure it out...i tried removing the ones i added and it froze again, tried that twice more and it worked again. so i added back just the first of my next set and it froze again. i tried several different combinations, but it still freezes, why?

Probably because you've hit the filesize limit

no, i don't think that's the problem, the filesize is still the same as the origonal, with or without the new ones added. plus i've seen people with more than 130 have no problems.

Did you check to see that all your portraits are 128 pixels wide and 160 pixels long?  Pay close attention to the texture formats as well; all portraits are in CI8 format, and their palettes are in RGB5A3 format, but their maximum colors can be adjusted.

Your PAC file has to use LESS memory than its unedited counterpart; sc_selcharacter.pac is compressed.

i'm using CUPASH to do this, so all i know is that the common5.pac is the same size. and i'm pretty sure all the picture sizes are correct, but the method i use is with indexed colors and color tables.  all of mine are indexed to 62 (except for the last one of kirby's, which i know isn't the problem because it was working just fine before). i had a similar problem when i first started, but i had only 2 on that were working and i tried adding another 5 and i froze, but somehow that fixed itself...

Well, you could always use CUPASH to make your portraits, and then insert the newly created BRRES files (MenSelchrFaceB###.brres) into sc_selcharacter.pac, via BrawlBox.  Just make sure to compress the BRRES archives inside the PAC archive, char_bust_tex_lz77, along the way.

i'm sorry, that's going over my head. the .brres files are in the menu>common>char_bust_tex. in the guide i read those are put onto the SD card into the pf folder.

    defrag your SD card
make sure that the last csp you added is ok (not to big, not corrupt)
then maybe delete a bit of extra stuff you won't need (if you never play on hyrule then delete the stgpac)
    then it will work

well the files are saved as .TGAs before they are converted, the original files are all 80.0KB, while mine are 20.7KB. so i don't think that they are too big. also they appear fine in BrawlBox, so i don't think their corrupted.

also i haven't done anything with the stages, so i don't know what i would do there.

I know CUPASH uses TGAs, but if you save your CSP's as PNG's and then convert them to indexed color mode, they actually take up less space then a TGA and you get to keep the transparency.  Try converting a few of your portraits to indexed PNGs and see if it doesnt work.

i tried that, but when CUPASH compresses them into .PNG files to fit in the common5.pac, they turned out to be smaller.  same file saved as .PNG= 7.69KB vs converted with CUPASH= 7.01 KB
