Alright, so. Trying to make some SSS portraits for my custom stages. I have the SSS icons and names all done, and the file size has stayed around the same thus far, but it starts to expand too much when I add the portraits. I need about an extra 20 Kb or so of space. Does anyone have any suggestions for a) reducing the size of the images while sacrificing as minimal quality as possible, or b) does anyone know if there are any files in the sc_selmap file that I likely will not need that I can delete for extra space?

My other questions, although not a major priority, are:

1) Which file and sub folder is the handicap button on for the CSS? I am looking to edit out the handicap text and change it to buffer.

2) How do I go about changing the stage portraits on the random stage select screen?

3) How do I assign specfic emblems to specific SSS portraits, and how do I add new ones without replacing current emblems?

Thanks!

There are a few things to consider...

1: Edit the custom textures that you're using so that they're using less colors.  For the CI8 textures, adjusting their palettes will work too.

2: Regarding the portraits in the custom rules menu, they're controlled by the following files...

*mu_menumain.pac - Custom Rules menu when accessed at the Main Menu.
*sc_selcharacter2.pac - Custom Rules menu when accessed at the Character Select Screen.
*MenuRule.pac - Custom Rules menu when accessed at the Tourney game mode.
*common5.pac - Contains the sc_selcharacter2.pac archive.  Primarily used with Riivolution.

3: There's nothing in sc_selmap.pac that's safe to delete.  However, you can replace the messages involving Wi-Fi with periods to reduce file size.

1: How do I edit them so they use less colors, and how do I adjust their pallette? I am using Gimp, for your information.

3: If I cannot delete files, is there anything else aside from the messages involving Wifi you would suggest me deleting?

1a: When importing textures that are in CI8 format, you can adjust the palette so that it uses more colors, or less colors.  However, 256 colors is the maximum, while 16 is the minimum.

1b: To index images with The GIMP, select Image > Mode > Indexed....  Adjust the maximum number of colors that you want used, and then convert the image.

2: Regarding descriptions, there isn't much else that isn't necessary to keep.  Obviously the descriptions involving custom stages have to stay in tact.

    Hi Ulevo,

If you still need help with compressing your portraits read this

actually i wrote this for a csp problem but you can compress your portrait the same way, just use the program in the link

    Quote
    4. (This will most likely be the Problem (I recommend using .png for csp´s)) When the file size of your csp´s is too big your game is going to freeze. The perfect Csp size is around 21KB (as .png). Here is the solution : download riot.exe ( http://www.mediafire.com/?mpc7aa90lbth1ea ) open the csp>press the png button below the initial image window>press mask located at the buttom of the screen>mark keep transparancy>press the big Save button at the top of the screen. Like that you can compress pics from 30KB to 8KB ect. Now you only have to replace it in brawlbox, press recommend and it should have the perfect size.

    good luck  Wink
