Immediately after I click any mode that requires you to select your character, like Training Mode and Vs. Mode, it freezes before I even get a glimpse of the CSS. I spent a long, annoying time experimenting with removing and restoring my files and I came to the conclusion that it's definitely a problem with my sc_selcharacter.pac, but it's only 3.48 MB, so I don't understand why it freezes if I add more stuff and it still stays at 3.48 MB? And no none of the files were incorrectly made or corrupt. Also, can a sc_selcharacter.pac become corrupt and cause a freeze if edited too much? Because sometimes I feel it freezes because I replaced too much stuff in such little time.

After more experimenting it seems if I add any new CSP text, like Naruto text replacing Ike's for example, it will crash before even loading the CSS. The game runs fine if I don't replace any CSP text. The text was "Save As..."ed from KC:MM to my Desktop, and it's a 13 KB PNG file which should work because my Zero one did. What am I doing wrong?

28 people seriously don't know this?

^It freezes as you click on the option leading to the CSS, right? Then either it's a problem with filesize (Not in this case) or the portraits or whatever you are adding are incorrect for some reason (IE: Wrong resolution, filetype).  Maybe you should upload your .pac, since I can't tell exactly what the problem is from this.

Anything that requires you to go to a CSS like Training Mode or Vs. Mode. It has to be something with the CSPs themselves, but I compared them to the default CSPs and they pretty much look fine with sizes and formats. Though the Sephiroth CSP text and his CSP were both TGA files. I'm thinking maybe I can't have TGA files in there?

    Anyway, here's a sc_selcharacter.pac that froze my game: http://www.mediafire.com/?k03723kjpd64dub

Edit: After more experimenting, the game only freezes if I add CSP text, like Naruto for example.

Your file must be using more memory than normal; sc_selcharacter.pac can't use more than 3.79 MB.  Game crashes tend to happen when scenarios like that occur.

Didn't you read the OP (not saying that ignorantly)? I said my sc_selcharacter.pac was 3.48 MB -- that's well below the limit.

You didn't change the size dimensions of the names, did you?  The size dimensions of your names MUST match that of what you're replacing.

For example, Mario's CSP name is 144 pixels wide and 24 pixels tall.  If you're replacing that name, the new name has to use the exact same size dimensions.

Also, the CSP names use the I4 texture format, so you're making a huge mistake if you change the texture formats.

like mnsg said, leave all your custom files exacally like what the original had, and make sure you back up the originals before you replace.

I also found that...even though your file is below the size limit.....it still can cause problems, just go over that file and fix it up

I compared both files and they had the exact same dimensions, format, everything.

I was replacing Marth with Sephiroth. Both were 144x24 and I4 format.

My Naruto over Ike one didn't match up in terms of dimensions; Naruto was bigger than the Ike tag. But my Sephiroth one should have worked.
