I've been trying to edit Lucas' bat but it won't work. I know I have to index it but with GIMP I have no clue how many colors when I index it.

First of all, The GIMP can't index the indexed textures properly.  That's where Photoshop kicks in.

Well first off it's a stick XP
So run through ASH and just hit n for all the textures till you find the right texture you're looking for. Then index the texture to the number ASH tells you. For example ASH will tell you the texture has to have 256 palletes or whatever and if it has more the texture could become corrupted.

GIMP (with my fix, in FAQ) can handle all 256 color indexed textures.

The reason others won't work? A discrepency in how photoshop / GIMP handles them (which... I could fix if I'd bother messing with the code a bit more...)

GIMP: Uses only index data that's needed
PS: Uses all 256, all the time
