Is the alternate file loader code compatible with Riivolution?
(To be clear, I mean the code that allows you to load from different directories depending on what buttons you hold down when selecting a character or stage.)

I've heard conflicting information concerning this and am not sure what to believe.  I'd like to make the switch from Gecko to Riivolution but I'm quite fond of this code and am not willing to part with it.  Unfortunately, I can't test the compatibility for myself because my Wii stopped reading discs and in order to use Riivolution I will have to buy a new console (which I of course don't want to do until I'm sure I want to use Riivolution).

Can anyone help me out?  Does this code work with Riivolution?  Are you sure?

Thanks

Definitely doesn't work because Riivolution doesn't use the file patch code which is needed for the alternate file loader code to work.

Is there anyway to get a similar effect using Riivolution?

Not that I'm aware of but I don't use Riivolution. Its not worth buying a new Wii just to use Riivolution, stick to Gecko.

I'm disappointed that I won't be able to replace sound effects or increase the file size limit of certain things, but being able to load alternate files via button input is absolutely vital to how I want my Brawl to be set up; I guess I won't be making the switch to Riivolution...

It's really too bad; aside from support for USB loaders, it seems like the alternate file loader code is the only significant thing that Gecko can do that Riivolution cannot.  I thought it was a relatively popular code so I wonder why no one has made a version of it for Riivolution.

If you want to use custom sfx you can just replace the .brsar file in the brawl iso you are using.

o_o  That never even occurred to me but it makes a lot of sense.  I'm not sure how I would make that work in this situation, however, as I only want the sound effects to be replaced when the rest of the character has been replaced via the alternate file loader.  I might be able to find a way to make use of it, though.
Thank you for reminding me of this possibility Smiley
