Default sc_selcharacter.pac?

Hello guys. Whenever I try to replace the background of the character select screen, the image goes over the size limit by a lot. I am using an image with the proper dimensions (something like 650 by 540, I can't recall) and it weighs exactly 307 kb. My sc_selcharacter.pac weighs about 3.67 mb, and whenever I add the image, it ends up weighting 3.85 mb. WTF? Does anybody know the solution? Is it something to do with image rotation (you know, the 0-999 thing)? Do I have to download the default sc archive? Thanks.
