We were playing a few money matches offline, so we saved the replays. An hour or so later, we went back to watch them, but they desynced. We never quit brawl or changed any files on the sd card in the meanwhile.

The only gameplay changing codes we had active were no tripping and colored shields (which I've used many times before without problems) and I've tried playing them without textures, but still the same.

We also had a stream up at the time and after comparing it with the replay, I've found the points where they desynced.
1st match: the last hit of Lucas' nair gave MK knockback while in the replay the last hitbox didn't hit, resulting in no knockback
2nd: Lucas' PK Fire hits MK while it missed in the real match
3rd: Lucas' PK Fire planted Falco on the ground while in the real match, he landed on his feet
4th: Lucas' dtilt tripped Falco in the real match, but that didn't happen in the replay
5th: Snake stuck a C4 on another Snake while it landed on the ground in the real match

Don't know if this matters, but in all those cases Player 1 was the one controlling the character causing the desync. Both Lucas and Snake have used the same textures for almost a year without problems.

Has anyone experienced anything like this before?

I've used hacks for almost two years without any desyncs. As long as you have the same hacks active when playing the replay as you did when the match happened, it shouldn't be any problem.

I've actually had a replay desync that wasn't hacked and it was one of the very first few replays I ever recorded back in 2008. It was Wolf vs. a CPU MK (I was Wolf) on Norfair, and everything was not right, and MK won the match when I was the one who really won. So I don't think it's hacks.

I've had that problem too, but I discovered a few things.
    • If you have replays prior to hacking your brawl, they might desync because of textures or mods.
    • Obviously if you change what the stage originally was it will desync.
    • Changes in PSA or gameplay.
    • Some stages and/or character will cause a desync no matter what.

My solution is not to save that replay. What's the point of saving it if you know it will desync.

I solved this a few weeks ago since no one else could help me.

I had the exact same hacks active when playing the replay as when we played the actual match, which happened like an hour or so before we watched the replay... there shouldn't be any reason for it to desync. As I said, the only gameplay changing hacks we had active were no tripping. After doing some research, I noticed the replays played fine when I turned off tripping... until one of us tripped (because we had no tripping active during the match), but as soon as I turned no tripping on, they would desync (with moves hitting that shouldn't hit etc, which makes no sense at all since no tripping doesn't make any alterations to hitboxes afaik).

Anyway, the way I fixed this was instead of using a 0% chance trip modifier, I changed the chance to 0.1%. The replays played fine after that.
