I see people asking questions about installing homebrew all the time so this should be fine here right?

I think I asked this about a year ago when my old wii stopped reading discs. I was digging around and found my old wii again and started thinking that a new method might have developed since then.

I had never planned to get homebrew channel, so I of course kept it fully updated.

My wii has something wrong with the lens apparently. It no longer reads discs of any type. It just gives a disc read error. It was a day1 buy, so the warranty is long gone. My parents didn't want to spend potentially $150+ to send it in for repairs. We have since gotten a new wii (with which I use the unmodded stack smash method for Brawl+), so it isn't crucial that I get the old one working. I just hate the fact that is nothing but a paperweight with Mii's right now.

I've just been waiting for a new method to install homebrew without using game exploits, because it doesn't read games.

Anyone know if it's possible to install homebrew channel without using game exploits now?

From my understanding I believe that the only way to do it is unfortunately via disc exploits.  I did mine via Brawl.  If you could somehow get Brawl (or another game with an exploit) to work then it would be no problem.  Have you tried cleaning your lens?

I've tried blowing into the slot a couple thousand times but that didn't work.

I tried every possible thing I could think of back then, trying to get Brawl to load.

I don't wanna have to open it up yet, so I'm about to use a disk with a handle on it, bandaid taped on where the lens should be, and I'm supposed to put rubbing alcohol on it.
I don't have any rubbing alcohol so I'm trying to figure out if ethyl alcohol (hand sanitizer) would work. I found a few places where they recommended it instead.

u should probably just go out and buy a lens cleaner from walmart or another store >.> there reletively inexpensive i thnk i've seen them for around 10$ the lens isn't in one particular spot it moves so it can read the full disk

Remember brawlbox 0.64b DOES NOT WORK! download .63 or under or it will give you problems later.
    Download to .63 modset: http://www.mediafire.com/?ud5s402d8u6ad6k#

If it's the same as a gamecube's lens, it should just follow a path about an inch long. The way I scrubbed it was covering a great portion of the inside of the slot.

    Didn't work anyway though.

I looked around for a cleaning kit back when it first stopped working and couldn't find one. My parents didn't want to have to order one or ship it out for repairs, thus me buying a new wii instead.

This topic isn't really important. I just found the old wii again and thought I'd ask. Since there is still not a new method, I'll just lock it.
