As mentioned above, you could still get some 3d detail in. I don't think you are limited by filesize anyway.

I was thinking, for Beedle, Luigi.
Obviously, for Pipit, Link.

But I have Fledge and Horwell ready to be rigged also and I don't know who to put them over as well.

You could try the material used on the windows of the FZero trophies. I've used it before and I bet it would work out here.
