SSE isn't limited to just textures alone. I've been using Shadow, SMBZ Sonic, Petey Piranha, and a bunch of other PSA's. But If I go to fight giant diddy it'll eventually freeze due to Waluigi's PSA. But as long as you don't have anything over SSE stuff like that, you should be fine.
I would also advise you to stay away from fighting the subspace clone versions of characters if you use PSA's. Especially G&W.
