I'm considering recording gameplay of hacks, but I lack knowledge of how to record games and transfer the video files to my computer. To those who post videos to Youtube and such, what programs/devices do you use? Does anyone have an affordable option?

    Thanks for your time. =]

Well, I'm a poor man with no capture card, so if I ever need to capture gameplay I use Dolphin and this:

Debut Video Capture. I don't know if it gets sound, though. I've never needed it. It probably does, but I dunno.

Dazzle capture card in tandem with Pinnacle Studio. I wouldn't recommend it too highly.... the quality isn't that great if you're cheap like me and get the standard stuff.

Pinnacle is a decent editing software though, much better than Movie Maker. (As is just about everything else) It comes free with Dazzle. At least, it did with mine.

Not the greatest, but it definitely works, so it really depends on how good you want the video to look.

Would you happen to have a Youtube video that demonstrates the quality? I'm currently heavily leaning towards Dazzle because, well, it's affordable. =P

Weeeeell, I don't have any that would make it look appealing, since I know little of video editing so most of my videos have those funky black bars on the sides, but I guess the most recent one would be this:

    <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hw4yZhc-_ys" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hw4yZhc-_ys</a>

All edited and rendered in Pinnacle, I think with a bit more tweaking to the settings you can get it into widescreen and not have it look so meh.

But I did somehow manage to get it into 720p, so that's good.

In short, if you're looking for something cheap, I'd go with Dazzle. It only set me back $40 for the most basic pack. I don't quite remember how much more the HD pack costed, but if it's higher quality you're after (and you probably are) I'd consider getting that.

Also, when you get Dazzle. If you want to save yourself some trouble, change the recording method. There's a "real time" capture. This will cut down DRASTICALLY on dropped frames. Also, do not forget to change the video's format when converting...

Or else you'll get things like my early videos, the quality was a bit better then, but the files were HUGE. And took hours to upload. Bad for someone like me who has disconnect problems.

persoally i use KRUT, quality is ok and it gets the job done, also free and no need for installation just download and use

the only downside i see with it is you have to reset the setting every time you re open it
