A free program called "123D CATCH" http://www.123dapp.com/catch (http://www.123dapp.com/catch) takes a series of photos and stitches them together into a full 3D model!
I've been messing with it for the last few weeks, and for a free program it isn't half bad ^_^
Thought I would share this little treasure with the rest of you guys. I'm going to be trying to port myself into brawl ^_^
You can see CATCH was able to reconstruct a 3D scene, just from a variety of 40 photos take around me.
I'm happy with the amount of detail that CATCH was able to capture from my images.
The unfortunate thing, is that the models are too large for brawl to use.
So I've been modeling a low mesh in 3dsmax, to transfer the texture over to.
Here are some PVC figures I used CATCH on aswell. I had planned to port them to brawl... but it would be easier just to model from from scratch. rather then trying to Tpose a slop of vertices :\
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
o.o
Umm... might wanna spoiler some of these pictures.
On another note, this seems like something interesting. Could result in some neat things.
Interesting.....I can imagine custom models being easily made with this.
Wow. This could be used very well if the textures are fairly easy to transfer over.
I have a bunch of old action figures that can easily be T-Posed.
Aww yeah! I wanna make an import and PSA of myself! Lol
i wonder if ref pics are useful in this program, kinda like milkshape
Its easy to take the textures from the CATCH capture and copy it over to my newly modeled mesh (Lowpoly)
in 3dsmax just press "0" to bring up texture baking. Texture baking will allow you to transfer textures or shading from one object to another. I use it for making normal maps from a high res model to a low res model.. or in the above case I can take its textures.
This technique is also great if you want to add real reflections to your model, and bake it into a single diffuse.
In this example below I baked the normal map and spec map into Rayne's Diffuse
(http://i46.tinypic.com/6xr9kz.jpg)
Notice before where the leather was just solid black, after baking the highlights and subtle details from the normal/spec map appear into the diffuse. This is important when porting a current gen model from say xbox360, to a older gen system like brawl on the wii..
There is evidence that the MDL0 format has support for normal maps and spec maps. But nobody here knows how to get them to work with brawl unfortunately..
Until then texture baking is a must for experienced model porters.
ouah awesome this lol all the guys of the forum in brawl for do team it would be cool :)
so does texture baking reduce the hassle of uv editing so that u can use the textures of one object to another?
Sounds awesome I want some of old toys in brawl but first I need to be able to import learning it now.

UV editing is important.. I could get into the topic but it would be a lengthy discussion.
bottom-line, UV space in important it is in direct relation to your texture resolution and the quality and balance of the port into said platform.
texture baking should be used to trasnfer your textures over to a new and better designed UV layout suited best for your target platform
example
2048x2048 texture = OK for xbox360
2048x2048 texture = FAIL for wii
to resolve, shrink the 2048x2048 down... !!problem (http://i0.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/000/143/193/cad-20080602-358b1.jpg?1309710446) of resolution, solution, dice your textures.
:: UV Editing Required <- {Important} = Baking is the Tool in this process
so baking is used to adapt a texture to a new UV map, right?
and what about in a case when the model your are borrowing textures from already has seperated uv's and textures, does texture baking transfer the uv editing to the new mesh?
I don't understand...how does this work? What exactly is this?

Take about 40 - 50 screen shots in a full circle of the object, you can turn what
those screenshots are of into a 3D model on a computer.
Aka what I've awaylys wanted to do with all my toys I used to have.
Till I got rid of 76% of my "stock" :srs:

I got rid of some (not all).. So I can still make it come true if I had a good camera XP Imagine lego guys, bionicles, spawn figures, impa figure, I wish zelda hadn't lost an arm figure, and the best of all: A Furby LOL
Awesome find btw XD
CATCH was designed in respects to a 3MP camera.. so any cell phone camera will do...
I am so using this if i can.
i have a great idea
I can imagine this being used in future games o.o

Finally, I always want some LEGO imports, like Harry Potter, Batman, Indiana Jones, and Darth Vader. I won't be making them or anything with this find until I get better at editing models in 3ds Max, and finish the other imports, and lower the amount of unfinished hacks I have. X|
i used it online with some screenshots but nothing is happening.
it just gets stuck on compressing screen when i try to download it.
Does it have to be from a real camera or phone, or can it be pictures from like a youtube video? If we can use it with screenshots from youtube videos, I could make the TWBB and StMB character much easier. >:)

if it has a 360 rotation in it, yes, you just have to rip them yourself from the video
it wont work if there isn't any landmarks for the program to use to orientate itself.
I tried using some images from page3(dot)com (NSFW) and they don't work.. most likely because the background is all white
(http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/8053/animation1sn.gif)
what if u get a video from a Tposed 3d model rotating? is it possible to "steal" (misspeled?) that model using this app?
Non-specific action figure for brawl!!!!!
I'm going to put myself in brawl :)
That would be so sexy. Literally. Or i'd put on my ninja outfit.
Do you think I would get in trouble for modeling my birthday suit?
hm.. I tried on this video and it worked.. but strange cause theres really no background to act as a landmark
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ej3mF4466DM
ima test this out, could turn up pretty usefull... although, it could be considered ilegal to steal somebody's model, right?
personally its not more less then sharing a screenshots of the guys work at that point lol
cause technically its just a mesh blob with a screenshot as its texture :P
but if i make a model using a video, rig it and import it to brawl, im stealing his work... xD
Who cares, brawl hacking isn't exactly lawful either is it? Lol I've had 3 lessons on copyright in school and idgaf...I know everything about it though.

I don't think copyright goes as far as forbidding you to make models of whatever that exists, regardless of the method.

Hush- I didn't really mean it. I did get like the 2nd highest grade on the final exam for both computer classes. And I think the highest grade all year in one. I talked too much in the other though. But I don't think copyright is really an issue. I had a 99.111 by the way :)

Hahaha.
Haha.
Don't put yourself above others. Makes you look arrogant.
I got distracted trying to make a nude mod for Lollipop Chainsaw..
I remodelled, retextured, and rebaked after creating a new HiPoly layer in mudbox...
Sadly when I tried to get it working just now it lockedup the game.. surely has to do with the file being compressed.. and I uncompressed it. I have no Idea how to recompress it :(
(NSFW)

The status on my "ME" project is pretty near to ready. I had to remodel a lowpoly and project the textures onto it.. I'm going to copy Marth's arm over to my lowpoly and reshape it as little as possible.. that way I don't have to worry about modeling fingers, and aligning them to the bones..
In the below screenshots you can see to the left is the CATCH capture.. WAY TOO MANY POLYGONs..
To the right is the lowpoly mesh I've been modeling and projecting the textures to.. pretty close..

Funny how the left one has OVER 9000 vertices, and then your arms, hands, legs and feet look like s***.
Wait so where do the textures come from when using this?
you use photos taken around an object, CATCH turns them into a model. it then creates a texture map for you generated from those xx amount of photos
So this makes the textures for you?
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

yes, CATCH uses parts of your images to create textures for you.
You can have a look at the texture it generated from my night shift nurse figure

I know it's a little late to answer this, but I personally don't think that would be any different from importing a model taken from a different video game. For example, if you wanna go on that logic, it would probably also be considered stealing from Capcom if you imported a model from UMVC3.
Anyway, I'm surprised so little people here want to import themselves, but would rather import toys, lol. I personally would love to import myself into Brawl, but after reading through the last few pages, it sounds really complicated.... lol
well, yeah, u gotta model urself in low poly... xD
mariokart, do you model from scratch using the other model only for reference, or do you use it in some other way to help you model yourself?
you just build polygons around the hipoly.. its not to hard. I either create a cylinder and extrude from there, or a box like on the shoe. Then just move the verts close to your hipolys surface..
I tried to put more polys on my face, cause I wanted to retain my EPIC nose features :D
nice, i'll make myself too, and maybe make a model of my gf xD
this'll entertain me for some time, since rebuilding the model will take some time xD
btw, glad to see you back here... since nobody has said that yet xD
EDIT:
i guess this is why my xbox doesnt work:

LOL!!
you should use a green background (green wall or something) to take photos
Your best bet is probably to set your camera up on a dolly or a tripod and keep the angle and height consistent.
was using a phone xD
