Looks great! I was hoping to try out the model in-game tonight but my importing skills aren't that efficient, so I'll just have to wait patiently for someone else to tackle that task.
Has no one really made recolors after all this time? I find it rather difficult to adjust palettes and textures without referencing a model, but I assumed more adept users would have at least attempted the process. Although I suppose Vert could have just been messaged directly with the results considering the textures themselves aren't much to look at without being implemented.
If the latter is the case I wouldn't mind seeing anyone's results; since Vert appears to be busy once again new content might be nice to view in the meantime before his next update.
I always appreciated Smash 4's attention to detail with the Tiki recolor receiving a unique emblem, it's a really nice touch and it looks great here as well. I'm not quite as familiar with the Fire Emblem series as I'd like, so forgive me if this is an ignorant question, but would it be plausible for each recolor to have a distinct cape symbol? I don't recall if each of the characters used as inspiration for the recolors have some aligned faction or trait that would allow for such a thing.
Anyway, releasing the textures sounds like an efficient way to save time and involve the community- good plan.
------ ...on a side note, I have a question pertaining to Lucina's proportions compared to a certain Mia model released by the LST. Given Project M's convention of designing the alternate costumes for the Fire Emblem reps to be the garb worn by alternative characters from the franchise, I thought the same would be nice for Lucina as well.
Not that Mia's necessarily the best choice for well rounded FE representation (several characters from her game already make appearances in Brawl/PM), but since the resources have already been created I presumed it would be a fairly novel idea. My only concern is Lucina's frame compared to the other model; I'm not sure to the extent of adjustments that would be required to pass off the concept adequately.
Of course I'm not pushing for anyone working on this project to increase their workload pursuing this endeavor, just pondering the feasibility.
Hey Vert, I've noticed it has been over two weeks since you've updated us on Lucina - I'm not trying to rush you or demand further progress, just curious if the silence is due to a problem you've encountered with/additional features you're trying to implement into the model or if you've just been too busy to work on it. Referencing your last post in this thread it seemed like you were nearly done aside from recolors.
I agree that narrowing the ankles and widening the body would probably help equalize the proportions.
And not that this is a fault of the model itself, but I've noticed Lucina's forehead looks off without a shadow being cast by her hair. Would texturing that in be an possible improvement?
Lucina isn't a well built character. She's strong yes. But she's not full of muscles in any sense. I think she looks fine just the way he made her. Also... she's like, 15 or 16. She's not all that old and probably shouldn't be overly muscular to begin with. Having played Awakening three times, I'm sure it's safe to say that she looks perfect.
I didn't realize she was so young, that makes more sense then. Well, regarding my other comment I believe the legs do still need some attention.
I think the model is over emphasizing the hind muscles and forming an irregular curvature in the front before reaching the shins.
Now that I'm seeing the side view, her leg does continue at an odd angle below the knees. It is pretty unnatural looking.
I'd also like to recommend making her arms just a bit thicker, as I would assume a proficient swordsman would have accumulated some muscle, but when compared to official art the model does seem dead on. Can't fault you on that one, but I think the LST's Lucina has arms that look especially thin in-game.
I'm so excited to see this nearing completion, I honestly thought this project was all but dead.
Lucina looks fantastic! I do think her ears look a bit angular, but that is my only criticism and it is such a small detail. I can't wait to see the model in-game. On a side note, I don't suppose an Exalted Falchion is within the realm of possibility (please)?
Edit: One of the major problems with the prior Lucina model by the LST, was that the hair was immobile and horribly clipped through her cape. Would it be possible to have her hair be affected by the physics engine, despite being placed over Marth? And if not, could it be rigged to the cape to achieve a similar result?
I'm a bit late to respond, but I'd much rather have your model, Vert, over the Wii U one.
Work done like the rigging and facial animations would prove useful regardless of which model was used, and since the current model was made specifically for Brawl/P:M in mind, it'll probably turn out better than back porting more complex resources.
Plus, you know, implementing something created by the Smash community feels more special than nabbing a model pre-made by Nintendo (and any special touches by Vert or Satoshi would provide something unique).
I am keeping track of Unbound's progress, but I definitely want to see how far I could take a build based off of the initial 2.0 Lucina release as well. Oh also thanks for following and supporting this PSA project for as long as you have by the way ^^
Oh, that's interesting. While I greatly enjoy many of the changes Lucina has received in Unbound (mostly balancing and such), there is also a uniqueness to the 2.0 build that I'd like to see return. I guess I'm hoping for a happy medium between Unbound's build and your new build sometime in the future.
Also, I appreciate the kind words. This PSA is one of the few available that actually feels appropriate gameplay wise compared to the actual roster, and has much potential to keep improving - if I can be a small contributor in allowing that to continue, then I'm happy to keep supporting the project.
I dunno about that... That's a project that'll be ongoing with P:M. As I stated before. I'm looking to drop out after this is done. So I don't think I'll be joining them.
While that's true, the team has people working just on their own PSA's, and I imagine they'll stop once their characters are finished. I dunno, something to think about I suppose. This might not be the case for CHMH as I haven't conversed with him much for verification, but I would assume he is only working on Lucina for Unbound?
I'm surprised nobody has commented yet, but your Robin looks pretty nice thus far. Compared to the Smash 4 model I think his hair goes too far down his neck (or at the very least, it thins out more in that area) and from the first-left image the hair slopes at too steep an angle in the higher back part of his head.
I won't lie that I'm more interested in the Lucina model at the moment, but I'm intrigued as to how Robin will progress going forward (and how a potential PSA would work in Brawl/P:M). I look forward to future updates.
Well thanks CH. Like I said. I'll still help finish this and help as much as you need. But after that, I'm done. I don't think I'll post anymore pics either. I just don't want to deal with it anymore.
Maybe you could just post to the Unbound developer convo on Smash Boards (I'm sure CHMH could add you to the group)? Unfortunately I won't be able to see anything since I'm only a playtester, but maybe getting some feedback from people actually working on Lucina might be more helpful and less stressful.
Sorry man. I've been slowly losing interest in brawl hacking lately. I'll still finish this project. But after that, I'm done for good. I don't think I can take it much more these days.
That seems to be the case for many people these days, I guess Brawl hacking in general is approaching its end. I imagine P:M will keep it alive for a little while longer, but still...
This will be my last contribution to this hack. I'm tired of the attitude on these forums. I'll help with the PSA side of things if you need it CH. But the animating, I'm just done with.
That's really a shame, as you're obviously quite talented and this project won't be able to progress nearly as much without your assistance.
Personally, with the Unbound team occupied with other commitments and work on the new Lucina model postponed for a bit, your posts on this forum are the only aspects of this project I look can look forward to at this point in time. Viewing a new animation from you every now and then makes me excited to see Lucina come even closer to completion. Sure, some animations are better than others, but in the short time I've been following this project I've seen the skills of the people involved gradually developing, which is why I'm disappointed that I won't be able to see where you can take Lucina in the future.
