2  Help & Tutorials / Model Tutorials / How to give moving eyes to character imports! on: April 11, 2012, 05:00:38 AM
eye materials takes 3-4 textures to do, depends on the character your modeling over... and you would have to rename the material to EyeL (or EyeR).

how to do it... if its over a character that uses SRT0 for its eyes

look at the original model, and open its materials.
-Export Material plus the shader its linked to

-Open up the model you want to give moving eyes to, replace the eye material with the EyeL/EyeR (and same with FS Eyes, but rename those to EyeYellowL/R ), and import a new shader to the model, and replace that new shader with the 1 you exported from the original brawl character model.




up next will be some texture editing if you know how to do it! Tongue

the eye material will tell u how many textures the eye uses


once u have made or edited your textures for the eyes, import them into Brawlbox, and assign them to the materials by looking at the original model eye material.

After all the material texture naming and stuff, link the updated materials to the new shader.

after your all done, for each texture node for the material, on the right panel, scroll down to the very bottom, to the XF TexGen Flags, and look for Coordinates. Change the settings for that to TexCoord0.


if you did it all correctly, test it out in model viewer with the characters FitCharMotionEtc.pac file, and watch the eyes move!

update:
characters like Mario and Luigi, u'll have to use the same polygons they have due to their SRT0 data having them blink.

im curious as to how big in file size it can be.. cause it just made a hack for it, which was at 5.17MB in size, and it froze at the menu.. so now im trying to figure out its max filesize limit.

well this is my first tutorial... so yeah, worth a shot since it hasnt been made yet! Here we go!

How to import a .obj file into Brawl via Mario Kart Wii method.

-First, grab a model you want to import, for example, Crystal World, which is a PSP Model which is in a different format. anyways, if your model is in a .obj format already, then load it up in 3DSMax 2010 (or any other version, i have 2010 which is used for the DAE to MDL0 anyways).

-Import all the textures onto each material, and to find out which texture goes on which material, right click on the object, and go to Object Properties, and click on the far right tab and scrool down the list for the Texture Reference. Once you find it and locate which texture it used, close the window, grab the texture and drag it into 3DS Max and onto the material.

-After doing every material, you are free to export the model as a new .obj file! Go to Export, name it "New model" or w/e name u want to use. after that, click on save!


When its done exporting, you should get a window like this.


now were onto the importing it into brawl via MKW method! Load up BRRES Editor which can be located in the Ctools Library made by Chadderz, which is located here:

after u opened up BRRES Editor, create new, then go to File > Import > Wavefront OBJ. A window will pop up, hit select and look for your .OBJ file.


If you get a text in red, just unclick the "Material" box, then on the bottom half, click on "Counter Clockwise", then click import.


it'll take some time to import, then it done. now if ur textures becomes all black, that is fine!


that just means u have to go through 3DS Max, load the .obj file and click on the materials to find out which texture goes to what. Each black texture file goes to that single material. After u have every texture fixed, u can save it via new brawlbox by BlackJax.

Now you can hex your stage with Fort Waffles model hexing program, after that, you can play ur stage in brawl!

Note: If your making a stage and ur inserting the hex'd model into the new brawlbox, THEN DO NOT SAVE THE MODEL OTHERWISE THE WII WILL FREEZE! Instead, make your collisions and animations in blackjax's brawlbox, then export them to a safe file you will know. after that, close brawlbox, and open up a old brawlbox, replace the collision data file with the one you exported, and import the animation data. after that, you can then save.

Note2: If you view your stage/collisions in old brawlbox, you'll get an error, but your still able to save ur stage.

well, im making a 3 stage in 1.. by using castle siege, and whenever it gets to the stage i imprted (even with a chr0 file), it comes out small. and it even freezes now when i make it has its Collisions, so can some1 help me out here? lol

anyways.... i have like over 120 models on the stage already... and i tried to give the stagePosition a chr0 file (located in ModelData[100] )... but it doesnt really work in game...

so... if any1 can help me... message here first then PM me to get the stage.

Is it possible.... to have a stage fully made of stage builder blocks... and having a platform moving u to different area's (if the stage is really really big), can that happen just by animating the platform (with its collision) up, down, to both sides... and wat bout making it take u to the front or back end of the stage?

Ok, I have been working on another TvC stage... and i added the Ammy (from Okami) model to my stage. once i loaded brawl, i noticed that Ammy was totally... not looking correctly in brawl. Here's some pics of her in-game.

Ok.... i kno i posted in here a few months back... well 1-2 months back concerning this.... but still...

I'm trying to get a model to work on a stage im making, and it has a srt0 file, but its not even working in game at all, nor showing up where i want it to be... so anyways.... here's some pics of the model... btw, if ur wondering what the model is from, its from Tatsunoko vs Capcom Ultimate All Stars. Please tell me if there is a way to get it working. would be highly appreciated! Cheesy
