Items can have vertex hacks and texture hacks. Characters have those, too. Well, why not let items have animations and effects? That way, you can create a whole new item.
I doubt any developer will see this.

I agree; we need more item hacks.
Item properties at least could be changed if not animations; people have made super scopes that shoot CDs
I'm sure there's a ton of other stuff that could be done, just by messing with the articles and properties.
