Can all of thse vertex, and moveset hack and other shenigans be used with just the SD Version of Riivolution. No HBC?

Yeah, Riivolution rocks for Brawl hacking.  It even lets you change sound effects, which homebrew can't.  If you need a guide for using Riivolution with Brawl hacking, check out this tutorial:

Unless you use a program that edits your Wii's NAND, your Wii cannot be bricked. So Riivolution and Gecko OS have absolutely no way of bricking your Wii. Besides, if you install BootMii as boot2, you have brick-protection.
