Pretty much what the title says. I've seen several uploads on youtube of brawl replays where the quality was at 720p. I already know how to upload standard replays using a capture card, but not how to get them in 720p. Does anyone know?
I think this is the right place to ask, anyway.

Dolphin emulator is the way to get HD quality.

That depends on how your video editing software is set up. I for one produce 1080P video's on YouTube showing me playing brawl. It all depends on the settings of the software. Suggestions for editing software: Sony Vega Pro, Windows Live Movie Maker Dolphin emulator is the way to get HD quality.
No, if your video editing software is not set correctly it will be crappy quality even when using Dolphin.

There's two possibilities for that to happen. The first (and most common) is using the Dolphin emulator which has a 720p upscale output. They use a video recorder to get the footage from Dolphin and make a replay video out of it. Only catch to that is that you have to have a really powerful PC to get a decent framerate while recording video.
The second is that they have a HD capture card. Probably one of the more popular ones is the Hauppage HD one. The thing is, that setup's not true 720p, that's only 480p due to the Wii not having HD in the first place. Also, HD capture cards are fairly expensive compared to normal capture cards.
Hope that helps you out, and welcome to the forums.
*EDIT* Pride made a very good point too. Your video editor's going to matter a lot in the video quality.

well, the wii does have HD video, you just need a HDMI cable, (i'm not sure if its 720p or 1020 orsomething, but thats not the point lol)

Wii does not support HDMI cables and outputting HD video by standard. It must be upscaled.

what do you mean by upscaled because, you can just put a special cable in the wii and then you'll be able to get 720p

It's not a HDMI cable for sure. 480p is as high as a Wii can go. To get anything beyond, picture must be upscaled.

Oh. Thanks for all the replies and for doing so in such a short amount of time =D
Say I want to try the Dolphin method. I'd start Dolphin, run the replay, then record my screen using some software, then import the resulting recording into Vegas and render/compress it, right?
But then more problems arise, because I'm completely clueless as to how to use Dolphin - I've attempted already to ask on their support forums for how to load Brawl replays/apply codes while running SSBB, but no one replied. I say this because when I load Brawl on Dolphin, obviously my replays aren't there and it defaults to the vanilla textures/music/etc, and it would be kind of lame to have to settle for that knowing that some other people have already figured it out. So if it isn't too much to ask, does anyone know exactly what I'd have to do in order to set up Dolphin to be able to use my SSBB replays and textures?
Also, yeah. The Wii definitely cannot go above 480p.

>.> huh? I remember seeing an HDMI adaptor for Wii that plugs in the USB port of the Wii. Then you just plug the output of the cable in the USB adaptor and the input of the cable into the TV. There's a thread for this on KCMM, too. EDIT: Found it. http://gear.ign.com/articles/107/1079857p1.html~~~~~~~~~~~~ Same for what everyone else says. I used to have a capture card that could record 1080i, but couldn't because I didn't have an HDTV back then. So really, it's just the kind of capture card you have and how the settings are set up. Also, to run hacks on Dolphin, don't you need a virtual SD card on your PC?

Also, to run hacks on Dolphin, don't you need a virtual SD card on your PC? You run an ISO in Dolphin, just use Wiiscrubber to inject the files into the ISO.

Okay, so what I should do is get an SSBB iso, replace the texture/music files, replace the stock replays with the ones I want to record, then screencap that? (disclaimer: yeah obviously I already own SSBB)

Yes, I know, but I've also heard of people using the Wii Menu in Dolphin with a Virtual SD. WiiScrubber sounds like the way to go, I wouldn't want to download all these files for the SD + ISO JUST so you can use hacks XD But using the virtual SD will take up more space, too. Okay, so what I should do is get an SSBB iso, replace the texture/music files, replace the stock replays with the ones I want to record, then screencap that? Yeah, but just use WiiScrubber on the ISO to replace the files. And then you're set.

Ok....to be clear: Brawl runs on 480p
The highest the Wii can run at isnt 480p, its actually 720p, the only thing is...very few developers actually use that graphic power for the Wii
With HDMI cables, it sharpens the graphics to games REGISTERED for HDMI...Brawl isnt one of them
To answer the original question. You can record directly from your TV using a High Quality Capture Card...or a PVR (they record in the highest quality). No need to download Dolphin and become a pirate
