has anyone else had trouble with not being able to put in custom icon, names, or previcon for the last 5 or 6 custom stages without it freezing?

How many stages do you have?  You may have went over the file size limit, in which case there's no way it will work.  Are you using gecko or riivolution?  I've heard that you don't have to worry about file size limit with riivolution so that may be a solution for you, but I really can't say as I haven't tried it personally.

im using riivo and when i make the icons names and preview icons i have always made them the same way amd they are the right size as well.  never had any problems till i came to replacing them for stages 20-25(thats hex) otherwise i have never ran into any problem like this before

Hm, personally I can't say I have a clue.  I have the files on my cpu, however I've been focusing on getting all my characters in order first.  This worries me, because the code I have is also for 37 stages.  If it's just file size you'll just have to go back in and dumb down images as much as possible.  I have png gauntlet for this so you may want to check up on that, unless of course you already have something to compress your images.  Also if you have Adobe saving at the lowest grade of jpeg helps.
