Saw the Charmeleon, one thing to say.
Ask someone to make him smaller on a one-slot, then change the color of his skin.
The vertex is awesome though! Very nice!

Please fix that right ear, that looks so awkward! >_>
Edit: Looking at it again, the texture just makes it look funky. If you could just copy the left ear's texture on the right you'd have it perfectly. Also, the face's eyebrows seem a little... blurryish so to speak. The model is there the texturing just looks kinda off.
Also I think you were so worried about the frontal perspective for his ears that you may have messed up the 2D perspective of the ears. In Melee, you see the back of his ears more in the 2D perspective (they curve inward a little more) if you could fix that as well when you do the boots that'd be great (because the first ingame screen looks REALLY odd seeing the skin color on the side of his ear).
