Title: Working BrawlEx with Project M!
Post by: AutumnVen on March 14, 2014, 10:37:23 PM
BrawlEx + Project M = AMAZING

But is it possible?...

Alright, so I am starting this thread for people to post anything and everything that they know about the possiblity of BrawlEx working with Project M. I know that a lot of people are wanting this, and that it has been asked before, but everyone seems to say that the answer to this question is no. No, Project M and BrawlEx are not compatible... We are here to prove them wrong!!!

For those of you who have no idea what either of these things are... Here are the links!

BrawlEx Thread: http://forums.kc-mm.com/index.php?topic=65113.0 (http://forums.kc-mm.com/index.php?topic=65113.0)

Project M Official Site: http://projectmgame.com/en/ (http://projectmgame.com/en/)

I have heard that apparently the latest version of Project M, 3.02, has built in codes so that cloning and easily editing of things is more difficult... Well thanks to MachWindEX, who has provided us with an older version of Project M, we can attempt to mess with version 2.1!

Here is the download link for 2.1: http://www.mediafire.com/download/z6x23d8p7n9ao3b/project+m+2.1.zip (http://www.mediafire.com/download/z6x23d8p7n9ao3b/project+m+2.1.zip)

So my goal for this thread is to answer this question! Whether it be that it is a complete dead end and we have all wasted out time... OR!!! We have created another amazing thing for the Brawl hacking community to enjoy!!  :af:

Please try and keep this thread specifically on the topic of BrawlEx + Project M. If you have questions about BrawlEx or Project M separately, please ask those questions in the actual threads for those. Not here. Thanks! ;)

Well to start things off... I have messed around with v2.1 a little bit and found that it is not gonna be as easy as just copy and paste. Obviously.  :P

When you add all of the proper BrawlEx files into the correct folders the game works fine until you get to the CSS. You get a completely blank CSS. The bad news about this is that it isn't working, but the good news is that this means that the BrawlEx data is being read and applied in some way!

I think this is because of something in the codes.

Alright. Well here are all of the codes that are inside of the Project M v2.1 RSBE01.gct

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

I believe that the individual pokemon, CSS gigabowser fix, and zelda icon codes need to be removed somehow, but my code editors don't seem to allow me to enter all 3781 lines of the Project M code. Any help on this would be appreciated.

I'm gonna have to split the Project M codes into its own separate posts because it exceeds the maximum allowed characters for a post!!

Project M codes! Part 2!

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

This is a lot of codes, so if anyone can get all of the Project M code into a single .gct file, that would be great!

Thank you Rosetta-Hime  :af:

Ok, so is there anyway to tell where one code begins and where another ends in the unknown codes section? And to add all the characters that 3.0+ has, minus Mewtwo and Roy, modify the Custom CSS, or use the CSSRoster.dat file. I know one thing, all those unknown codes are going to be a pain in the donkey.

btw pokemaster y dont u use the gct editor from the resource page and the code manager that brawl ex suggested so u can edit the codes

I know one thing, all those unknown codes are going to be a pain in the donkey.

My GCT editor that I use searches a database of all known public codes. So the huge unknown codes list is everything that the Project M team created, so they are not on the database. So distinguishing one code from another is almost impossible, and even if we did get them separated we won't know what the codes themselves specifically do.

As far as v3.0s codes, I haven't looked into them at all. I would assume that they do include their clone engine and CSS codes. I believe that the codes that I have dissected from 2.1 will be able to be used with BrawlEx. Because 2.1 uses the custom CSS code, if we take that out, then theoretically BrawlEx will work with Project M!

At the moment I am trying to put all of the unknown codes into their own RSBE01.gct, but It is a real pain! My GCTeditor and Codemanager don't seem to like me adding 3781 lines of code... Codemanager only allows for 256 and GCTeditor is picky about its input. So right now I am manually going through all 3781 lines of code and deleting all of the spaces and returns so that I can input it into the GCTeditor! This is gonna take a while...  :-\

at least we know its reading the code tho

Oh, that sucks so much! But I just thought of something. You are trying to make this work on 2.1 correct? If that's the case, then the modules haven't been heavily modified yet, which means .rel ports will work, and using the CSSRoster.dat you could add Yoshi, Kirby, Samus, ICs, all with their PM 3.0 form, if I'm not mistaken. It sucks that GCTEditor always has to make the codes one giant line. It takes forever, and it sometimes doesn't work.

also since there ends up with a blank css y dont u first get rid of every character and readd them with the movesets we want them at

like add the project m 3.0 rels
Title: Re: Working BrawlEx with Project M!

well with the 3.0 rels, we wouldn't be able to actually do this. Those were modified very heavily from the vBrawl ones. That kinda defeats the purpose

Alright, well I haven't been able to work on it much today. (I went to the zoo!) Anyways, what I did find out is that this is way to big of a task for one man alone. So I have a request for everyone...

I have split the 3781 lines of code into 25 separate txt documents. Would anyone be willing to help format these files so that they can work in the GCT Editor?

They need to be turned from this:

3860FFFF 2C03FFFF
48000008 2C00FFFF
60000000 00000000
4A000000 90000000
1619D000 000000B8

To this format:

3860FFFF2C03FFFF480000082C00FFFF60000000000000004A000000900000001619D000000000B8

No spaces or returns.

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/oaivwl9hgos2edd/wCI_gEQjYo (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/oaivwl9hgos2edd/wCI_gEQjYo)

Here is a dropbox link to all of the 25 sets of separate code. They are split into 150 line intervals, except for set 25. Set 25 has more like 180. If anyone wants to help me with this task, send me a PM saying which one you want to work on, and I will tell you if that one has been taken or not. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Post Merge: March 15, 2014, 11:17:17 PM

I just completed Set 25, and that didn't take as long as I thought it would. It went rather fast actually. So that's 1/25 done! If others could help, then this can get done really fast, and after this is done further testing can happen! But at the moment this needs to get done before anything else.

alright here it is  ConsoleApplication (http://www.mediafire.com/download/di11vc0y49k2yw6) just drag and drop the text file into the program. If it has a space in its name, just remove the quotes from the program. then press enter. the text file will be formatted correctly now. Then you can drag another one in :P

So thanks to Sammi Husky I have split and combined the Project M codes into 3 separate gct files!
Here is a dropbox link to all 4 gct files that I have:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/bj6whxn6riyk05u/iliFfWLG56 (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/bj6whxn6riyk05u/iliFfWLG56)

-The original Project M v2.1 codes. Nothing done to them.
-The Unknown codes
-The Known codes minus the CSS related codes
-The combined Unknown and Known codes minus the CSS related ones

I haven't gotten a chance to test anything yet, and will probably do so later today.

Post Merge: March 17, 2014, 11:47:54 PM

Alright everyone... I have some interesting results for you all to see.

So I took the Unknown codes and put them into their own gct and attempted to play with them.
Here are my results:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3MjCUQJKk4 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3MjCUQJKk4)

The second time I used the Unkown codes and the other Known codes that were in the Project M gct.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUdqhlEWeIQ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUdqhlEWeIQ)

Something tells me that to fix this it will take more time and knowledge than I have...  :-\
So any help or ideas would be appreciated!

the only ppl that know what each of those codes do its the project m staff so unless one of them wants to make an old PM build compatible with brawlex(very unlikely) this wont ever work, very few ppl actually know about codes and only the project m staff acutally knows what they do individualy, so brawlex wont ever work with projectm unless  they want to make it happen which they dont to due to having their own clone engine already.

Ya... I might screw around with it a little bit longer, but it really is starting to look like a dead end. I don't normally like to give up on things like this, but because of so many unknown variables that only project m staff knows of, it does almost seem impossible. :(

I still might look into it a little longer though...

You shouldn't have to remove anything from this PM version except the CSS codes. other then that, i don't believe there is anything else unless They have codes that alter the IC's for characters. which is likely. Just try it with only the CSS codes removed

every time since the first PM release they have a code that prevents adding other slots to the CSS or they turn to mario slot and use the mario original files, becuase they didnt want the ppl to get the chars that didnt have pm movesets vs the pm movesets made so yes there is a code preventing that somewhere in there ever since the first release

Well then... does anyone know how to decipher codes?!  :af:

but seriously.  :notimp:
Would it be basically impossible to tell what code is what in the Project M codes? Cause to me it just looks like a bunch of characters all mushed together in sets of 16... Do you think that this code that is preventing CSS addition would look anything like the custom CSS code? Or is there a certain line of code that is in every CSS related code? Cause if so, then one could just go through and find all the codes that start with this and delete them from the list... idk. Just some thoughts. I honestly don't know much about codes, so ya... I'm more into texture and model hacks myself. :P

there are ways. about 60% of codes have the same ending line. i'll have to look it up to find it again. and quite a few have the same starting lines. that will cut down a LOT of the work by searching for those 2 lines of code. then you just add them toa GCT and find out exactly what each code does. the hard part will be finding that last 40% of the codes. i decoded a few codes using a leaked codeset and the newer ones and comparing and contrasting them, we were able to find foot stool on taunt, GC light press (freezes pretty sure theres more to this one we need to add), melee air dodge (wavedash), moonwalking, momentum capture settings, the settings modifiers, camra settings, physics, hitstun/lag and a few others. i would recomend using one of the newer brawlbox's. i use 0.71, they come with a code manager, just add the text file of codes you know to it and it can open a GCT and recognize those codes.

we are actually trying to decyphering 3.0 atm xD

another tip is on known codes with a modifier (settings, hitlag, hitstun etc) look for the lines of code above and below the modifier. i'll update the post with common closing and opening lines later.

hmm i can post a link of all the codes i have in .txt file atm we have deciphered 21 codes in PM 3.0

also the most common ending line is:
E0000000 80008000

start by looking for that line and adding a marker to show the end of a code ( i usually add a line break)

Awesome!

Keep us updated on any other things that you find in the Project M code! ;)

I feel like if we can pull all of the codes out that deal with the mechanics and physics of the game, then maybe we can just put together our own version of Project M that works about the same, but without the restrictions!

not sure how much you can edit the code its pretty nitpicky as is. the reason characters were locked isn't because they were unfinished, its because they were destroyed by PM's extensive coding, and wouldn't work at all in game. i have a feeling a good chunk of codes are mostly correctional, CE, or IC  stuff.

So I have taken some of the codes from both of the code sets that you guys have provided, and I have made my first adaptation of the Project M codes for brawl. It isn't much at the moment, but this is what I have.

I have it so that the air dodge, dash dance, shields, and wavedashing mechanics are all working in brawl. And I have tested it and it seems to work fine with the clones. But I have only one problem with it... The king of wavedashing, Luigi, is not able to wavedash!!!!! I don't know why, and I haven't experimented with it much, but at the moment it is very disappointing.  :-[

It is great that you are making progress. I can't wait to see how this comes out. I always wanted characters like Lucina, etc to join Project M without having to replace any of the characters. They just have so much potential. And I hope you soon find the problem to Luigi's wavedashing. Also you mind posting a vid of your progress so far? Thanks!

heres a new link
this one has 39 project m codes

So I have taken those 39 codes and put them into their own gct. I also removed all of the CSS related items. I added that set of codes to my current working BrawlEx set of codes. (I am using Nebulons pack.)

It appears to load normally, but then after the strap loader screen it freezes where the intro film should be played; leaving a blank white screen.

Anyone know why this normally happens?

I don't know if it is brawlex, or something else. It didn't even make it close to getting to the CSS, so I didn't think that it could be that. I know Project M had a custom intro video, so maybe it is trying to boot up that video, but it can't find it on my SDcard...

I am going to add the codes more strategically now so as to get an idea of what works, and what doesn't. One code at a time...

Ya that's the plan. Adding each code individually until either they all work, or I find one that doesn't work. I will slowly be going threw that process throughout this week (cause for some reason the give us homework in school...) and I will update with anything that I find. I don't think I am going to count any minor ones that I know work, such as the pause cameras or tags. I'm only going to be doing the main game play changing codes, because those are really the only ones I am concerned about. The little ones can come later. ;P

I'll do a video later on this week.

@MachWindEX

What exactly is the Data Index that is in the list of codes? What does it do? What is it for? Why?

Post Merge: March 25, 2014, 12:09:51 AM

And do you think that it matters what fpc is used? Whether it is the Project M, or just the normal?

Cause if I remember correctly from when I was messing with it before; It is the same fpc that I already had in my gct.

I dont know what the data index actually does but i thought it was an important code so i added it
I think the fpc dont think the fpc actually matters also the fpc project m has is slightly different and i updated the txt so it has 45 codes now it has the hitstun, powershield window, and walljump frame codes now
Im done looking through the code for today so if u have anything to ask ill answer

Post Merge: March 25, 2014, 12:18:18 AM

also i think data index is important because anything data related is usually important so if it doesnt freeze brawl ex keep the code just in case

Alright. I'll try and see if the data index effects anything. For now though I am gonna try and focus on the mechanics.

So how much code is there left to go through?

And yes it doesn't seem like as much of a dead end! My only concern I think will be the modules and getting the characters and clones to fight like in Project M. Like actually have the Mewtwo that floats, and other stuff like that.

That's true... I do think though that the biggest part about the entire thing are these codes! The more about them we know, the easier it will be.

What do you think the Mewtwo Fixes code does?... I'm not gonna look into it right now, but Mewtwo is my second best character, so I am really interested in it!

Narrow it down to the last three. The unrestricted camera and pause codes never freeze unless there's a number wrong in the code really.I personally believe its the tags in replay code.

The only problem is that Luigi still doesn't want to wavedash! The other characters, and even the clones can do it, but for some reason Luigi can't! Later on this week in my progress video I will show what is happening. I plan to post that around Wednesday, Thursday at the latest.

Dash and Ledge related codes are now inputted and working. The only bug that I am having at the moment besides Luigi is that Goku doesn't seem to like the Melee Airdodge. He will either T-stance, or make the game freeze. The other clones that I tested did work though. I know I have had problems with Goku in the past when I replaced Pit in the actual version of Project M.

Ok, so I am slowly adding codes in and I had some random ones that didn't really fit into any category, so I put them all into a gct file.

Ok so I fixed Luigi! It really wasn't that hard. He wasn't able to wavedash due to his brawl animations. Whenever he would be in free fall he would land on his head and stall. This caused him to hit his head every time he would go to wavedash. So to fix it all I did was add the FitLuigi.pac and FitLuigiMotionEtc.pac to my Luigi folder, and it fixed the problem. The Project M has a different free fall animation that allows for him to wavedash.  :P

It seems very close to the same, but I feel like it still isn't fast enough. I need to go back and play Project M again and see how that feels to compare the two. I feel like that is the only thing. I am gonna start messing with the move sets here soon, and other stuff.

I feel like we are not making BrawlEx compatible with Project M. I think we are creating something that feels like Project M that is compatible with BrawlEx. ;P

You guys are amazing. I wish I could help but I don't know anything about coding. having project M with more character slots for me to put characters in without replacing one would be amazing. I hope you guys get this to work. BTW if you guys do get it to work, do you know if can make a version that supports extra stage slots?

you're welcome. A major thing that would keep me playing project M is adding more stuff like stages and costumes. extra characters would make it perfect. you guys deserve more supporters.

btw for theres already a stage expander and costume expander we dont need to make 1
theres cbliss for costumes. it allows up to 10 costumes per character
and also search up classic stage expansion pack on google and theres a stage expansion that gives u 12 or 36 stages

I'm aware of cbliss and all that. I'm currently using the stage expander and trying to get cbliss to work. I was wondering after you guys get this work if can make a version that supports cbliss and extra stages as well as the extra characters.

I'm just quick checking in on my phone, I have a lot of school work to do because all I worked on yesterday was this! :P

To answer armored dragons questions.

Currently it isn't actually using Project M directly. We are currently creating a code set that gives vbrawl the mechanics of melee. It isn't really adding brawlex to project m. It is more like adding project m to vbrawl. If that makes any sense? :P

So yes any stage or cBLISS codes will work with what we are making. I am currently using the codes with Nebulon's pack and he has stage expansion and other codes applied.

Hey if you succeed are you going to put the GCT file along with Nebulons pack (of course crediting him) into one giant pack and post it on the vault? Because I use Nebulon's Pack and I really want the Project M mechanics in there XD. Oh and just a question: There's no turbo mode since it's version 2.5 right? If it's possible, would you mind looking through PM 3.0 codes to see if you could add Turbo mode? If it's not possible it's fine. By the way great job so far! ;)

Once the gct is complete I could put the pack on the vault.

As far as turbo mode goes... I feel like that is something that will go on the back-burner until the main mechanics and physics are all determined and working perfectly. It is definitely something to look into though down the line.  ;D

Project M + BrawlEx Codeset test update  (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueBSM8qdCkU&feature=youtu.be)  (I'm P2 ;))

There are some glitches, which is to be expected. Such as Mewtwo's shadowball not showing up after playing as Lucario. Goku also freezes, as you can see at the end of the video, when he does his melee dodges. Also me and some guys were just playing it, and we have gotten random in-game freezes, but only like 1 within the 3 hours we were playing it!

Yes it is possible.  I recently finished the GCT to get the brawl ex engine to work with the pm engine.
Right now I have it at the point that visually it is vanilla brawl, it has the mechanics of pm, and the character limit of brawl ex.  I'm still working on getting everything to work(like special brawl, stages, and characters) but there are some limitations still, mainly not having all o the character rels from PW

Don't worry about the random freezing (I think) because when I play Nebulon's pack normally, it freezes after 2-3 hours.

excellent work. If it's any assistance, I've tried taking mewtwo's moveset from PM and using him in Vbrawl. That exact same glitch occurred. this leads me to think that their mewtwo's moveset is using something not standard to lucario's files or likely it requires a code we haven't deciphered.

My pack uses Project M roy's data files directly from his fighter folder. No glitches. As such (as many of you already know) the codes and the PSA's are 2 halfs of a whole when it comes to the playstyle you get in PM.

EDIT: someone should try V-brawl with ALL of project M's files. and just use a file replace code or whatever and see if the glitches in some of the movesets dissappear

At this point in time not really. I haven't messed with it at all. I'm sure it's possible, but I haven't looked into it.

I honestly haven't looked at anything in a while! Life just got full of things to do!!! I won't be able to work on anything for the next week either because I will be on a music tour to St. Louis and won't have time to do anything! Nor do I have my wii and my laptop's Dolphin emulator is really laggy and terrible. My laptop is just not good for games I guess... It doesn't even run Goat Simulator (http://www.goat-simulator.com/) cleanly!!!!! :(
