What's the limit of polygons? Is it the actual file size that's the issue or the raw number? I had a mod that was nearly 20,000 polygons, it had a slight hit on performance but didn't kill the game

I had a mod that was nearly 20,000 polygons, it had a slight hit on performance but didn't kill the game Brook turned out to be over 50,000... I pro-optimized to a random number like 5% out of 100% and his faces were over 1,000. He's ugly up to around 35%, but his shoes and sword suffer. I'm aborting this guy.
