just before you even THINK about opening it, make sure you ground yourself by grabbing any part of the casing of the computer that looks metallic and make sure your feet are planted on the ground. this makes it so that you dont zap anything important with Electro Static Discharge (ESD)

We're doomed man, we're never getting THE Roy. yeah i tried not to make it sound so bad.. but it is something to concern yourself with... the hard drive isnt affected by ESD that much.. its mainly the processor. so if you steer clear of the processor you should have no trouble whatsoever. :3 besides, half of the stuff said within the first few posts should work no problem, im talking like last ditch effort stuff here :X |

But even then, it's not like the Hard Drive is THAT soft, I've messed with mines for a long time, right now i have one on a basket with a lot of Console controllers and I can assure it works. XD If HE really needs to get to that, I'd be good to find a video for him to have an idea of how it works, but that'd be if it gets to that. XD |

if your gonna buy a new computer.. why throw away the old one unless its got catastrophic issues.. this doesnt sound like much of a problem at all..
like Moleman said, snag the hard drive if you can, grab the cable that goes with it too, since more than likely your going to need it.

then once you have it out, just put it somewhere safe, then you can put it into the new computer when you get it.. provided that the current one isnt too old..
Well. My dad is what I like to call "Technologically Challenged," and tends to have the mentality that if something is "broke" you throw it out and get a new one. He just doesn't get that the PC isn't really broke, it's more like "damaged."
But yea. In other news, Im gonna try that Hirens boot cd today and hopefully it'll take care of all my issues.
Also my one year hacking anniversary is tomorrow!  |
