Mostly because he seemed serious enough, with a head screwed on tight and all that jazz.
His topic is also kind of 80% of Programming, so there's not even any need to tell him to keep an eye on that thread.
The fact he's both well-known and respected is also a nice bonus for a Mod.
Plus, he's around MSN often enough, so it's not that difficult for the rest of the staff to reach him if need be.
