im a hardcore cross country and track runner. i ran in State my freshman year, and i qualified this past cross country season for state as well. however i then got my first pneumothorax. (october 2011)
i was healed and ran again by late november. however, about a week before christmas, i got a second pneumothorax. the doctors dont know why. i was in the hospital for two nights until they were sure that ill be fine at home.
then yesterday, at school, i felt a pop and my chest started hurting more that it has before. i called my mother and she took me to the ER. 3 hours later i was in the operating room.
they did something called a plural desis. they basically scraped up the skin within my chest so that my lungs can stick to it. this causes a collapse to be more rare. they also cut out a small section of "bad lung" that kept causing the injury.
i will stay here in the hospital for 3-4 more days.
good news is that i can still run track this season, and i shouldnt have any more issues.
