Working on an original character for a personal project... Parts used so far: Robed Zelda trophy's robe Pit's Shield A Pokeball Ridley's left arm I call it' Y'. It's supposed to be a strange phantom-like thing that has have a monstrous arm floating near it (Pokeball and Ridley's arm). I'm going to be making custom animations for it so that arm is hovering next to it. The problem that's bothering me is the weird shadows on the cloak, any ideas how to fix it? What are you working on......?

To fix, go into an Edit Poly modifier, go into Polygon sub object mode, select all the blackened faces, and hit Flip. Should flip the normals.

Well, I've been trying this, but every time I turn the camera the black parts just come back in different spots...

you could just leave those there. It's basically a copy of the cloak with the normals reversed so that you can see the backside instead of it being transparent. if you wanna go ahead and delete them anyway then you can try to use the element selector to select the front of the robe and hide it so that you can delete the black planes

It's a 2 sided cloack (just like Zelda's dress)... hit Shift + Q in 3dsmax and it will render the current view, if it looks fine, it'll look okay ingame A 2 sided clothing consists (most of the times) of an object wich has 2 elements, one being the outer clothing and the other the inside clothing, both elements are probably in the same coordinates hence why some polygons/faces overlap ontop. Edit: ninja'd, mostly what great DemonBoy said

It's a 2 sided cloack (just like Zelda's dress)... hit Shift + Q in 3dsmax and it will render the current view, if it looks fine, it'll look okay ingame Right-click the model's polygon groups, and choose "Object Properties". Click on the "By Layer" button to change it to "By Object", then click on "Backface Cull". If it still looks broken, then yes it is a polygon problem which would involve flipping the offending faces to be proper, but the opposite side shouldn't show through.

Rig done, just have to texture it. Then, wait for Anivernage to rip Andrew Garfield "The Amazing Spider-Man" model, and dual release these badboys.
