did you rig it? O.o
you might need to add every bone to one object to make sure the bones are with the model xD

Just a suggestion pikazz, but if you like, make one slot rigs, and then make a rig by making the character's bones match the model (for those who want to PSA/animate because PSAs desync anyway xP).

THAT! Like Mewtwo for example, make a version of him that's exactly like his Melee model, same bone set, same rig, this should be perfect for any PSA attempts for him. Just add bones that might be needed for him to properly work.

Maybe you could ask RandomTalkingBrush because he/she knows a great deal about models. Kit Ballard/RydiaformFF7 has a topic in which she has models with their original bones. I believe she has a video tutorial on how to do it.
